    Hi,
I am considering getting rid of my e46 m3 and getting an evo 9 in the near future. However the version i want is the fq 360 which only runs on 98 octane super unleaded fuel. Now I read a previous thread stating that it wasn't available in ireland anymore but just today read a thread stating maxol's E5 is a 99 octane fuel readily available. Can anyone clarify this or are there any evo fq owners out there who can advise me on the idea???
    Thanks

I doubt it only runs on 98 octane, I presume a 9 will run on 95 octane but you'll just be down slightly on power.

Anyway Maxols E5 is said to be 99 Octane but a lot of tuning companies dont believe it actually is.

You always have the option of using Octane Booster but its expensive and how much extra octane it actually adds has always been under scrutiny.

thanks draffodx. See the normal 9 does run on normal 95 unleaded but the manual on the mr fq models says 'super unleaded' only and I read in a thread somewhere that running on a lower octane with a turbo engine can damage it?
Hope it doesn't but I better not buy a car that i can't run in the country...
It would be an import as there aren't any available here and I'm starting to think that it's probably because others who thought about bringing one in from the uk discovered this same problem?

As I understand it, the FQ models were UK specific, sold by UK Mistsi dealers and hence should be able to run on 95.
The imports from Japan I would expect to want a higher octane than 95, in fact I think that 100 octane is available there. So FQs may be OK, RS and GTs probably not, at least without a bit of detuning by someone who knows what he is doing.

Only if your boosted Jap technical wonder doesnt have Knock sensors and Timing Retardation abilities (which it will). Tuned cars might have issues like this, stock ones should not.

PS: You really should read up on what Octane is.

The e5 certainly has a higher octane though, I know a friends tuned 200sx would knock like there's no tomorrow on 95 but would run perfectly on e5.

Yeh I think some research put it at around 97RON but its been along time since I looked.

well matt, i'm certainly not claiming to know what 'octane' is (nor do i care right now) but i do know that the fq evo 9's need 98 octane so really i'm just looking to find out if a suitable fuel is available here!
