old people and cats

The old couple that live across the road from me have about 10 cats and i just noticed 3 new ones this morning. These cats are horrible creatures they spray all over everybodys cars, gardens, front doors even. One was in my house a while ago. What makes old couples collect cats like this?

Do you guys have experiences with these situations?

I imagine some of these elderly couples find solace in the company of cats, perhaps the pace of modern life is too much. Perhaps they don't go out because they are harrassed? Maybe all their friends have died and they don't have family of their families don't visit?

    I'm no cat fan, btw...

They need something to lock in the dungeon under the house!

people who live with cats (plural) are weird end of.....

i had a cat once it created enough of a stink, i can't imagine what it would be like with more
i would never do it again. plus they go everywhere, it's rare you come home to find a dog peeing on your table but cats....*shudders*

Sorry; who's doing the harrasing? The people around or the elderly couple?

I love cats myself-I'm a knitter, it's expected :D but 13 would be a bit much alright  they're probably animal lovers and just like the company.
It is horrible when toms spray everywhere, it's almost impossible to get the stench out of anything. Maybe they can't afford to get them neutered though if they're on a State pension only.
Do they appear well off? If so there's no excuse for not bringing them to the vet to be fixed.
Oh and don't encourage them into your house. Cats are manipulative and terrible opportunists and if you give them any food they WILL all be over looking for more. A friend of mine ended up with 3 when he only wanted 1 but he's a soft touch and let strays into his house and before you knew it they were making themselves at home there. Cats are smart ;)

 end of what? I know lots of perfectly normal people with more than one cat. Nothing "weird" about liking more than one.

In ancient Egypt, they believed that cats were the gaurdians of the underworld. Maybe old people keep them around, so that when they die. The gaurdians might be nicer to them, because of the way they treated cats in their mortal lives.

Sorry. Maybe I'm getting premature dementia but I find it very difficult to understand what you're saying

No, you're not the only one. It's just poor spelling and punctuation.

They can't be that old if they are working? What do you consider old?

Maybe they just like having cats around. It's perfectly normal.

Maybe if you added a little bit of punctuation like full stops, capital letters and commas and used spell check people wouldn't have difficulty understanding you. And no, I'm not a grammar Nazi, I just like to read posts that don't look like they've been written by a 5 year old.

Old people forget things, so they forget they have a cat and go "oh wouldn't it be nice if we had a cat", things generally escalate from there

Agent Orange. What do you think cats spray?? If there are lots un-neutered Toms then of course they're going to spray urine. It's what they do to establish territory.

they are probably running a cat milk farm.

Isn't it obvious TPD?? Lots of cats, old people like cats, therefore neighbours-ancient Egyptians. If any of the cats are also called Bastet that seals the deal :pac:

My mate who is not "old" has seven cats, three stay inside and sleep on various beds all day, the other four are semi wild. Funny to see some of them appear in google street maps.

Get a gold fish, then when you buy a house, you can watch as your cat eats it! :)

An old lady with about 25 cats lived a few hundred yards away from us, and when she died, the cats spread out all around the neighbourhood, on the prowl for some other suckers to take them in. My missus fell for one of them, then paid a vet big bucks to have the beast snipped. A week later it got flattened by a car.

This is my brothers shed every evening at about 6 when the little fcukers come around looking for scraps.

The previous tenants use to feed them at this time and they haven't got the message yet.

Aaw...furbabies :) if he really doesn't like them though he can either let them adopt him as their slave or squirt them with water. They'll soon get the message. My friend fires little plastic balls with a cat(:pac:)apult from the back door at strays who come into his garden (and he loves cats-has 3 of them).
Stings them a little on the ass if he gets them but it doesn't harm them.

I like cats. Just not 10 of them!

I just hate when they fight at all hours in the morning. Nothing worse than a fighting cat alarm clock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Those cats sound more like vultures circling an injured animal. Maybe your problems won't be around for all that long. ;)

I don't like cats at all.

Years ago a girl I knew had one that would hide behind the couch and jump out and scratch down your legs when you walked past. I took to holding a bath towel around my legs as I walked in to the sitting room. That cat was a little **** I have to say.

It got hit by a car one day though and died and I felt bad for always cursing it.

It obviously had anger issues :(
