    Hi,

There has probably been some similar threads but i couldn't find any and wanted some specifc info.

I am looking to buy a new bike. I have been cycling a mountain bike for a few years now and been meaning to change for ages. I have a small commute to work daily but I would use it a lot going into town etc and a couple of 10ks during the week and Sundays.

The bike was thinking was the Giant Rapid 4 http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=38&idproduct=39581

I was into the Cyclestore and they recommended the Lapierre Shaper 300 http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=38&idproduct=30983

The guy seemed to think the features were a lot better and I was only paying for the brand. I dont know much about bikes but is the carbon forks a big advantage? The Lapierre is the 2010 model which i dont mind.

Final point is that if i buy it though here http://www.eurocycles.ie/ I will get 15% (of the value of the bike) worth of accessories free.

    Cheers in advance any

The lapierre does look better speced (it has a higher RRP, so maybe that explains it). A guy I used to work with had the shaper, looked like a decent bike. The colour isn't to my taste but eye, beholder and all that.

If you are going to bring it into town(1,000,002):

Cool cheers for that, I should probably get a second lock for the wheels. No one would bother stealing my last bike.

Ya id agree on the paint but its more about the bike then how pretty is is, no?

One other thing. Its the 2010 model. The last one they have. Its a 56 frame.
Im 5'8"ish, everything i read says the frame size is the biggest thing to look for.

The guy there seemed to think it might be a little too big but measured me(sitting on bike and the length to pedals using my heal) and said it would be fine. It seemed ok spinning around the car park.

The fella was quoting equivalent to traditional sizing when he said a 56. Its actually a 52 in a Lapierre. I would have thought that the 56 (52 in lapierre) was too big. Looking at the geometry chart you probably want the size below 54 (48 in lapierre). Go back to the shop, try the size below and then make a choice between the two.

Make sure your main lock is a good U-lock like this and not just any old cheap U-Lock.

I went to cyclesuperstore last week in search of new road bike and salesman pushed Lappiere all the way.Just searched some threads here and it looks like they always push Lapierre as they are the sole Irish distributor.Having said that they do seem to be a quality bike.

The model i was going for is the 2010 model so the only size left. It was why I was going for it because it was reduced. My first thoughts were that it was too big but after getting fitted i felt ok. I was going to get the Lapierre. Im questioning that now though.

    Cheers for the replies lads
