I've owned 2 Ridleys and love them.

They ride very well and are well build and designed for Belgian roads (Cobbles there like our main roads) so ideal for Irish conditions.

Treks are good bikes too but some cannot take the LA connection ......
(One of the reasons (actually the reason) I'd never consider one myself)

Treks are officially cool now that Lance has retired and MAWS has acquired one.

As a general rule treks are certainly not cool .....

Exceptions are allowed, though only on a case to case basis.

Guys I am looking for new bike too and narrowed choice to the trek above or this cube peloton http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=40649

Which one in your opinion would be better?

    The Ridley :D

Only kidding the cube is quite nice though the fact its only available as a triple would stop me you have to go to €1199 for the Cube Attempt to get a compact.

The trek is a good bike but ten a penny. Don't know how anyone at a race with a Trek 1.2 finds it again after parking it assume you just go home with the first one you find in your size :p

Both the same groupset, no weight published on the trek site. Guess it is down to which colour you'd prefer, warranties offered, and price difference if there is one...

    Hi Donal

Are you referring to Trek V Ridley here or Trek V Cube ?

    Thanks

Trek Ridley, Cube is over budget far as I understood, and also not in the opening post so I was answering that one! I like treks, but because I have a black bike, I would go for the Ridley as I love the white/blue look! I have a Paganini carbon frame, and it's too black.

Applys to all of them, actually just spotted the Ridley is a triple chainset aswell so looks like has to be the trek as its the only one available as a compact. As donal says they are all very similar with tiagra groupset all round and all weigh all most exactly same.

Are you tied to one dealer and using the bike to work? There are a couple of other better value options.

Not tied to one dealer Ryath. Please feel free to recommend better options in the ball park price region.

    Thanks

Or save €100 and get the same bike with SRAM
    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2103
Said this before but they really are savage value.

If you can't or don't want to buy online this is worth considering
    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_777713_langId_-1_categoryId_212536#dtab

Not as well specced as the canyons but still better than the trek and you have to buy in Halfords though. Some branchs do have staff that know their stuff and someone on here I'm sure can recomend a branch.

I realise both are probably a bit plain compared to the cube, trek and ridley but are better bikes which would be more important to me.

AFAIK they are not available in shops . They set themselves up as an internet only manufacturer and retailer. Great bikes though....

Really like the look of the canyon and it looks like there are very good shimano components on it.
Can you give me a bit of info about SRAM ? Are they a shimano rival ? Would they be seen as superior or inferior to shimano ? And if superior how come the SRAM bike is cheaper ? (older model maybe?)

Finally, I presume I can buy off canyon via BTW scheme yes ?

    Thanks

Yes you can get canyon on BTW (depending on employer, but there's no legal reason why not)

The 3 main groupset manufacturers are Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM -they all work slightly differently, weigh different amounts, and cost different amounts!

You will get various fans of each of the groupsets saying each is better than the other, but they will all do the job. I'm a SRAM fan myself, as they are lighter than the comparable Shimano groupset at any given price point

Thanks for this explanation. Do their bikes come fully assembled or should I start practicing on Kinder eggs ??? :-) It looks like it will be about €50 to get a bike shipped to Ireland. are there any other hidden costs to worrry about ? Looks like pedals are not included.

Usually pedals are not included, as there are a variety of types to chose from from your bog standard flat pedals, to toe clips and one of the various types of clipless systems that require special shoes for, and which one is used is personal choice.

There is a small chance that it will come with flats, otherwise your local bike shop would be able to supply you with a pair for <20 quid until you decide which system you want to use (if any).

It will require some assembly, but not too much -there's always this forum to ask for help on, and there's even a couple of boardsies who will do this for you for a small fee

You'll just have simple work to do like fixing the wheels/handlebars to the frame. All the trickier work will be done.

Nope. Once you're purchasing from a company within the EU you won't be hit for customs charges.

6 weeks wait for a Canyon Roadlite 6 size 58 based on the availability checker.

Is this normal or does it sound a bit excessive ?

Good choice hope you can manage the btw with your employer.
I use SRAM Rival myself and really like it, used to use shimano tiagra and it just feels weird to me to use after getting used to the SRAM doubletap system. It really is personal preference but SRAM at any given price point is generally considered as slightly better and does weigh a good bit less. The SRAM apex is at least at least the equal of 105, one thing to consider the roadlite 5.0 has 48 chainring on the front vs a 50 on the 6.0 its not a huge differance though and you can change it when you get fitter. a chainring is pretty cheap.

Its just how they schedule their builds I assume, strange when they have the framesize in stock. They do have the Roadlite 5.0 in a 58 for imediate delivery.

ChewyLuey is looking for a prebuild. That they have the frameset in stock means nothing if they don't have the components to put on it. As Ryath suggested it might be worth considering the 5.0 or 7.0 in your size (look in the 'express bikes' section). IIRC another boardsie posted on some thread here about buying a bike from Canyon which was scheduled to be completed and delivered about 6 weeks from the order however they received it after only 2 weeks. You might be just as lucky. Very nice looking bikes, btw.

EDIT - I just checked and the 6.0 is avail in a 58 triple. The 5.0 and 7.0 are both available in compact 58.
