Tipperary del Street Crime

I'm just after arriving in from the pub, and my brother was watching one of those programems that's always on Sky or Bravo at this time of night, Costa Del Street Crime, or some such, documenting how major criminals hide out in southern Spain, and plan their criminal enterptises against law abiding society. I was sitting there thinking how the criminals featured were the very essence of scumbaggery, and feeling somewhat sorry for the Spanish locals who had to put up with the very dregs of these islands.

Then, as I listened more, and in my admittedly alcohol addled state, I thought, how is Michael Lowry any different? Listening to the accounts of these drug dealers and low lifes, and their tales of how they subverted the law, I realised that their crimes were in the little league compared to the acts of the bould Michael. They broke the law from the outside; they feigned no repsect for the laws they broke, and the effect of their actions, whilst devestating, were limitied.

Michael Lowry on the other hand, profeessed, and professes still (!) a respect for the law. Yet., he displayed, in his actions, a contempt for the rules far more flagrant than any drug dealer or low life fence. He swore to uphold the very standards which he so fundamentally undermined. Undermined is too equivocal- abused, broke, desecrated, all describe more adequately the actions of this scumbag. I post now and then on the politics forum, and the use of the word "scumbag" is frowned upon there as being too pejoratove, too personal. But never has a description been so deserved. Michael Lowry, TD for Tipperary North, decided to break the rules which he swore to uphold, and sought to enrich himself at the expense of the state. Precisely because he knew better, he is worse than any drug dealer, or murdering pawn. I'm a tad inebriated I admit, but it's not the drink speaking when I state that I hate Michael Lowry!!

To finish up, what the fook is going on in North Tipp? This is a man who disregards the laws for personal enrichment, a man who has had to settle with the Revenue Commissioners for tax avoidance, a man who abuses and devalues the democratic process for self gain. And yet he's re-elected! I don't understand. There was always a taint of ciorruption of Lowry, he had been found guilty of tax avoidance, and yet his coinstituents saw fit to re-elect him. And, even after he is found to have committed what can only be described as treason, even after his base and self-serving actions have been laid bare before the world, we have Tipp electors defending him because "he gets things done!". If this is the basis on which we elect our politicians, then political independence is wasted on us. If this is how the people of Tipp North elect their representatives, then they deserve nothing but scorn.
