Yeah they posted an ad (twice?) for it here awhile ago. And couldn't seem to answer any questions they were asked about the event. To be honest I'm surprised they're still going ahead with.

Can't be that bad surely? O.o Was going to wander up and check it out.

Shouldn't this be something the airsoft community should support? And if it is crap and a complete failure at least work on it with the organisers to make it better next year?

Of course it is. If you hadn't noticed though, the airsoft community is unfortunately a bit peculiar with that type of thing.

i can see your point but personally i actually see competitive events as being damaging to the hobby as I've only ever seen them bring the worst out of people in the format seen in ireland, i fundamental do not see airsoft as a competitive sport ( this is just my point of view )

i also do not believe that anything tagged with airsoft deserves peoples unconditional support automatically

I agree with you as well Puding, I don't see it as a competitive sport. Now maybe I don't know enough about the expo but it seems like more than just a competitive day out.

It shouldn't be based on competitiveness, it should be based on promoting the sport and getting the public onside so to speak. Thats my point when I say we should work on it for next year if it is a failure.

I'm not saying that just because it's an airsoft event people should be all over it, but something like this every year would be great. Even cut back on the competitions, just to get retailers and sites so show up and show off what they have to offer.

I didn't get past the home page on that irishairsoftexpo site because whoever designed it needs to be murdered in thier sleep for making it musical.

I'm with Puding to the point that competitive airsoft, in Ireland, is dire.

Take aim was a decent platform that jsut really didnt take off and tbh the clientel participating was just...ugh.

I'd be well into a more competitive side, teams on teams with some high paced gaming, a change from the slower paced milsims and random all over the shop skirmish.

But it would take some effort to actually get organised properly and in fairness a site would need to be developed from the ground up with that intention in mind.

The two sites used in the Take Aim for example were just skirmish sites, not built for competitive play, so for example, depending on what side you were giving as a starting point, you could be royaly ****ed from the get go.

I was mad for it and the start, I gave it a second chance, I'm over it at this stage.

There's a competition at the event. Actually, to be more accurate, the event is a competition. A skirmish, be it casual or milsim, is taken in good nature almost universally (there's always one...) but the moment you put it forward as a competition, the game changes and the dynamic shifts dramatically from good natured fun to pure competition. Competition among people who are armed often leaves people aggrieved for some reason or another. The format had been tried and tested here in the past with no success, but lots of drama. Drama that has split groups, caused arguments, feuds and generally left a bad taste in the mouths of all involved.

Basically, a certified competition in this country is a bad idea, even if the only prize is bragging rights.
