Heading down to Cobh, Cork this weekend. Looking to go for spins, about three-four hours.

Anyone local know any good routes, east or west used by clubs or cyclists.. bitta scenery, quieter roads, that kinda thing..

If you don't have to start from Cobh, throw the bike in the car start in Midleton and do one of the Stephen Roche Tour de Cure routes - the routes are on the website.

Midleton Cycling Club do their club cycles leaving at 9 from the Courthouse in Midleton also. Been out with them a few times, very welcoming bunch, spins are usually around 100k with the quicker of the two groups.

Bar that, there's plenty of cycling within reach of Cobh, lots of hilly tests around Glounthane if you wanted to test yourself. Or maybe something like this, get the ferry across to Passage West and continue on down to Kinsale for a coffee.

Even staying on Great Island, there are plenty of tough little climbs around Cobh and out (east) towards Cuskinny that will challenge you !

Two options this weekend ex Midleton.

The Pink Elephant 200, Saturday 26th, sign on in Midleton at 8am. 200km needless to say. Check the Audax Ireland website for full details.

Cycle in aid of the Christchurch Earthquake, 80km or so, Sunday 27th, sign-on at An Rothar, Midleton, leaving at 9am.

Any idea of the route that the Earthquake cycle are going to use?

As far as I know, Midleton - Youghal bypass - Tallow - Dungourney - Midleton.

Sign on 8am @ An Rothar, leaving from Courthouse at 9am.

thanks for forthcoming advice... in the end went over to midleton from cobh and on a bit, in left onto some winding backroads to tallow then the road from there to midleton again, climby, then back to cobh.. a lot of the stephen roche route alright...

3.5 hours, met eamon ?? from ballymore cc who showed me the back roads... he says they run a good race around cobh later in the summer..

    I'll do that again!

    thanks
