    Allo allo,

First time posting so bear with me :).

What good English language (grammar) and teaching English books people would recommend? or additional useful resources?

Aim: to brush up on my grammar etc and also tools for teaching grammar etc.
    useful teaching resources

I've the intention of teaching English abroad for a year or two, and i'm pretty much starting from scratch as far as teaching is concerned.

Even though i know people who have had no experience or real preparation head over to places like South Korea, i do feel responsible for a certain standard of teaching (Even though I've decided against courses like the CELTA etc).

Im currently working through the 140 TEFL course (apparently the Micra of language courses but sure how and ever).

I was looking at the Celta recommended book list:

    Language
Grammar for English Language Teachers, Martin Parrott (CUP)
Practical English Usage, Michael Swan (OUP)

    Teaching English
How to Teach English, Jeremy Harmer (Longman)
    Learning Teaching, Jim Scrivener (Heinemann).

    Additionally:

    essential grammar in use, Murphy
oxford a-z of grammar and punctuation, John Steely
a practical guide to grammar, thompson and martinet

    general language awareness training
common mistakes: troublesome words, bill bryson

Has anybody got any views on these books?

Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

(also Im sure there will be a future asian child who will be thankful for your answer:p)

I'd just google "English grammar" and use some of the many online resources. I wouldn't waste money on a grammar book.

Scrivener and Harmer are both excellent, definitely worth getting one of those if you have no background in EFL.

Also, Eats, Shoots and Leaves is decent for punctuation and you'll probably have or know someone who has a copy lying around.
