This may not be new to everyone, I've lived across the road from one of the €2 shops for ages, but only spotted they sold 2m HDMI cables yesterday, for the lovely price of €2!!

I wouldn't normally pay much attention to their "electronics section" as most of its pretty tack... but considering the the cost of the cables elsewhere and the fact that there's not much that can go wrong with a HDMI cable!

I think €2 is a pretty solid price and as good as you'll get without having to go online!

Much apologies if this isn't suited to here! I reckoned it was worth spreading the word about to those that don't know!

If you require a very thin mobile cable or or a cable longer than 2m, then quality does matter and that's where the branded cables hold the advanatge. The loss on very thin or long cheap cables will create pixel errors on the screen or even bit errors, especially at 1080p resolution.

But yeah, for short <2m permanent lengths these €2 cables will probably do fine!

    Which HDMI version do these cables support 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4a ?

I'd imagine up to 1.3. Can't imagine they support Ethernet or Audio Return

As someone who works in electronics and deals with the large multinational cable companies, here are a few facts:

All cables are made in the Far East, i.e. majority in China
The larger multis may charge more for their cables but they are not manufactured at their Chinese facilities. The cable and connectors are manufactured by their subcontractors, who may outsource the cable further down the supply chain. The actually assembly may happen at their factories, but then again this is not always the case.

If I want anything electrical, I always check the 2 Euro Shop first and then Tesco. Failing that I will go online

True, majority of cables and connectors are manufactured in China. My experience is that almost all large multi's will have a supply chain in China.

There are only two things you need to watch out for when buying a HDMI cable. How thin do I need it to be? How long does it have to be? Thinner costs more because as the cable diameter reduces it will cost more. Longer cables cost more because a higher quality cable is needed to overcome the loss of the longer cable. In fact some HDMI cables now have active chips in their connectors to boost the signals through the cables. These make the cables more expensive.

I know its different but to do with connector quality, I just picked up a scart splitter today from there. There was a bit of a crack in the plastic already from new but it doesnt effect it at all. For 2 euro it does the job and its 10% of the price of the next cheapest I found in town. Dont notice much effect in the quality of that, I would have faith in their HDMI at that length.

Plenty in Talbot st. Bought 4 and 2 iPhone/iPad docks for the princely sum of 12 quid. All functioning fine. Can't get cheaper anywhere.

Scart is analogue so the cable/components quality do make a difference - a cheap scart will give a crappy(er) picture.
