Focus 2009. Do all models have the necessary electronics for heated windscreen ?

I have a 09 focus with a cracked windscreen. It is the style model imported from the UK. It does not have a heated windscreen. Does anyone know if all the necessary electronics are allready there? Because if this is the case I could get it replaced with one with the heating elements built in.

Not sure if all models were pre wired for the heated windscreen to be honest. You probably would need to get behind the dash to see if the wiring looms are present.

BTW if you are getting your windscreen replaced under your insurance surely they will replace it with the same type as the one being taken out as the heated screen costs alot more than a standard one. At least it did when I had mine replaced on my old Focus a few years ago.

Do you have a built in switch for it, its not automatic

I was thinking that it mite be on the same switch as the back....could be wrong though.

No, it is a seperate switch that is located on the centre console next to the rear demister switch.

The button isn't there but the wiring loom could still be behind the centre console. Sounds like an awful lot of hassle though.

    Its well worth it.

The Ford quick-clear windscreen is brilliant.

Ya, I have it on the mondeo, watching people lug out jugs of warm water during the winter was fun:P

I'll definitely have to give it some serious consideration. After working a night shift it's a real pain in the ass de-icing the windscreen.
    Thanks for the advice folks!

I was always under the impression that all Mk2 Foci came with Quickclear as standard? I think the only model that didn't was the Edge, but that never sold in big numbers here.

I've had a load of 06 LX models back and they all had Quickclear.

I'm not sure if it can be retro fitted, but it probably would be worth it, I find my one very handy on frosty mornings.

05 LX models definately didn't have it as standard. Zetec upwards did though.

Yeah its strange...cus i know a few lads that have pre 09 models and they have them. Its genuine ford glass in it too.

It was pretty much standard on most Irish models from around 2006 onwards. UK spec cars like your own were different however.

TBH it should be standard on all cars, seeing people driving around with letterbox size clear patches on their windows is pure dumb. Its a great safety feature

    +1.

However, AFAIK Ford own the full patent for it and wont share it with others.

IMO They should share it as a safety feature just as Volvo did with the 3point seat belt

Not for free, why would they?

You can have a heated windscreen in a BMW or Mini, but it costs.
