Bought an iPhone 3GS from someone on Adverts who lost (or was stolen.. unsure) his previous 3GS, and claimed a replacement on insurance. But he bought a phone in the meantime and sold this on.

All seems fine with it.. it activated without a problem and have been able to make calls etc.

But it does have a sticker on the box stating:

    "IMPORTANT:
Please contact Apple Customer Care IMMEDIATELY on 1850 88 20 48 to register your new iphone. Otherwise your warranty will be invalidated
    "

Any idea why I've to do this.. and will there be a problem here, or will it simply be a case of registering the IMEI with them?

Just call them and ask without giving any details

Suppose I could.. but I'd rather know in advance if they'll have a problem with it.

They might trace the call and send out "the man":

What type of box is it in? When you plug the phone into iTunes it calls home anyway, so I can't see why you'd need to ring them.

It was just a plain black box.. it contained just a replacement iPhone, no manuals, cables etc (AFAIK).

Like I said, the phone activated without a problem but was just wondering why I needed to phone them or the warranty would be invalidated.

Will give them a shout later.

    Rang them earlier.. no hassle.

It was simply to register the warranty as being associated with my name / e-mail address.
