Brazilian Waxing

    Hi all,

Question for the ladies here :)

I'm about to embark on my first ahem...brazilian wax. Naturally I want to go to a good salon so I'm looking for recommendations. I'm in city centre, so preferably somewhere in town that does a good job.

My friends have been scaring me with stories about having to "get on all fours" so eh...maybe somewhere that allows a girl to keep some dignity?

Any help would be appreciated :)

    Thanks!

I really wouldn't worry! The person carrying out the wax sees and has seen EVERYTHING, and on a daily basis. Brazilian is "all off", I'm sure you can understand some parts are harder to reach than others?!

Brazilia and Waxperts get a lot of recommendations on this forum.

Hollywood is all off and Brazilian leaves a bit.

I prefer a Hollywood myself :) Once you get it done you'll want it the whole time.

You don't go on all fours when getting a hollywood or a brazilian done

You just lie down. The therapists there see it all day every day, so there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Trim yourself before you go, otherwise they'll trim it for you before they start the waxing. To do the front, you just lie down, spread your legs with your knees out and so the soles of your feet are touching. To do the back, you bring your knees up to your chest. Simples!

I go to Brazilia, it is the best place in town to get it done, I would not recommend any other waxing salon. It's a little sore when you get it done the first time and if you leave it a good while between waxes because then there's more hair growth to get out. Once you go once, and then if you go again in about 6-8 weeks, the second time will not really cause you any pain at all.

I've seen some people on here recommend taking painkillers before you go - I think that advice doesn't make any sense at all, you're going to get yourself waxed, it's not extreme pain. You don't need painkillers. Just grit your teeth and clench your fist - it'll be over quick. Oh and they say that some women are particularly sensitive the day or two before your period so don't book an appointment for those days. They say you can go during your period but I personally would not be comfortable with that at all so I just schedule my appointments for the rest of the month.

Sorry to change the slant of this a little op, but roughly (I know everyone is different) how many days regrowth do you need to get a wax? Say, if you go from shaving to waxing.

Love getting a hollywood wax, I fell so clean and fresh down there. The boy likes it too. IMO I don't like brazillian waxes as I feel it looks like a knacker tash down there! That's just me though!

I love the fact that with a hollywood you can wear any underwear you like and not worry about "haircare" down there!!

@Boom I would get about 2-3 weeks of smoothness before the hair starts to come back. Some of the hairs are taken from the root and others take a while to grow back. It's very gradual though if you went back after 6 weeks, there wouldn't be a load to take away!

I've been going to Brazilia for years but have recently moved to Urbana, they're great!

They only charge 40 euro for a 'maintenance wax' (hollywood or brazilian) provided you book within 6 weeks. They often have special offers too, and they have a loyalty card also.

I travel from Offaly to get mine done in Brazilia! They're fantastic! Make sure wherever you go, they use Lycon wax. And whoever told you about the all fours thing... I have never had to do that!!

All fours is quite common. First place I had it done did this.

The place I go now, well, let's say she has her own methods!! Trick is not to worry. It all depends on your hair growth and at the end of the day, you are paying them to remove it all properly so if that involves bending over then so be it! :D

All fours, as glam as it is, is a good position to get all the way back to your bum (lovely!). Some people get their bum waxed when getting a brazillian or hollywood done and may therapists will put you in that position by default. I have been there - not nice but over quickly, and not all salons put you in this position.

Usually, they do the top (closest to you belly) and the sides (along you legs/bikini line) first, this is just with your legs bent up with your knees to the side. Then you change position to either knees up by your chest, leg straight in the air or onto all fours and they do the back (further back towards you bum... and your bum, if you want that done!). If you don't want to go into the "all fours" position, then say you don't want to and you will just have to lift your legs up.

The one thing I will say is have a cool shower before you get it done and wear light underwear, and afterwards make sure you exfoliate gently but frequently.

@ boomcatalog - you will need around 10 days or two weeks of "post shaving" regrowth, if not more (depending on how fast your hair grows). It needs to be past the stubble/rough stage to be any good.

Try laser, worked wonders for me, not 1 hair out of place :)
