Little Help?

    Folks,

I messed up a mod install and tried to do a factory restore. I now appear to have lost root and lost my clockworkmod recovery.

I'm trying to figure out how to re-root and re-install clockworkmod.

I can get into fastboot, when I select recovery I get the red triangle. When I press Volume-Up and Power I get an error saying "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" and I get a blue recovery menu, as opposed to the green clockworkmod one.

I'm a little confused by some of the rooting guides out there as they all seem to involve doing a full install of a new ROM + Recovery, all I want to do is get into recovery and restore my latest backup.

Anybody know a simple way to do this?

    Thanks

    EDIT: HTC Desire

Getting root/recovery console differs from phone to phone. What phone do you have?

For example, on the DHD you can install ROM Manager from the market and download Clockwork through that...
Your phone may need to be rooted first though.

Restoring an old backup will not fix lack of root... you may need to reroot first.

D'OH, meant to put it in the title, I'm on a HTC Desire.

I have ROM manager installed already but can't get beyond the recovery screen to run it

I'm a DHD user, so hopefully a Desire user can help you out.... sorry. :)

Have you got the Clockworkmod update.zip on the root of your SD card? If so, when you boot into the 'blue recovery' screen you mentioned, select the option to Apply sdcard:update.zip. This will load the Clockworkmod recovery that you know.
If you don't have this update.zip, then within Rom Manager, select Flash Clockworkmod Recovery and this should download the latest update.zip to the root of your sd card and then follow the instructions above.

If you are sure you can get into fastboot mode you should be able to flash the recovery menu again.

Download Android Flasher from here & Clockwork Recovery 2.5.1.8 from here

Either flash the recovery using the program or go to the Data folder and open a DOS prompt and type fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-bravo.img

You haven't said if you can boot into the Android OS, if you can the above will work fine.

All of the above assumes you can still access & put files on your SD card.

I got sorted in the end.

I couldn't get into the android OS so used recovery-win.bat from the R6 root method to flash clockworkmod recovery and then re-flashed my rooted rom (zip was still on my SD) and was able to get back to normal from there.

    Thanks for the tips

I knew I'd get in eventually, I just have a really slow connection in work so didn't want to download 250mb of R6 zip. So annoying having no phone all day. I still haven't managed to install the ROM I wanted though!

I think I'll wait til I get home at this stage.
