    Hi,

Just wondering does anyone know much about selling newspapers at traffic lights and doing a newspaper round door to door. Is there much money to be made in it. Everyday I see the same people selling newspapers at traffic lights and I keep thinking they have to be making money or else why would they keep coming each day.

Id be interested in finding out any information anyone had on this business.

    Cheers

There's very little money to be made. The traffic light thing is becoming contentious as there are 'health and safety' issues which have to be adhered to.

Also, you're not about to simply start trading at Newlands Cross - that's somebody 'patch'.

The door-to-door is normally run in conjunction with a shop. I'd estimate there is about €3 per house, per paper - but only if taken five days a week and you were being fed directly from the wholesaler (and it was a broadsheet). The houses have to sign up for all the 5 days - otherwise its not worth a crap.

If you could get 70 to 100 houses it might be worth a shot.

Around south /west Dublin the charge per house is 1 euro per week - so 1000 houses equals 1000 euro plus your margin on each paper - each area is assigned to someone , a patch , and can be bought and sold , sme as a milk round

the traffic lights is pretty much sewn up , chap from ballyfermot runs most - if you try to sell somewhere yourself you won't be given the papers at source and you will be frozen out -

ring or go up to independent newspapers in citywest to see if there are any areas they need covering or built up , or they could tell you if someone wanted to off load a particular area

If nobody is covering your area ring them - what they have done in the past is supply each house with a free paper for a week , at the end of the week you canvass them to see if they want paper delivered regularly - you win and newspaper wins long term

    Worth a shot
