VW Golf Issues. PITH!

Hi I need to get my 2006 VW Golf 1.9 TDI Comfortline serviced and a few other jobs that i will list now.

1:)The back left passenger door window only opens from the driver door control panel. The button on the left back door doesn’t operate at all.

2:)I need to get new wipers front and back.

3:)The cigarette lighter is no longer working. I can’t charge my sat nav as a result.

4:)The latch on the back seat that allows the boot to be expanded has broken. Is it possible to install a new locking system in the seat? The seat has a custom beige covering so a replacement seat is probably not an option.

Would any boardsies be able to give me an estimate on how much it would cost to get the car serviced in a vw garage and how much each of the four other jobs would cost?

    Would really appreciate any advice!

The cig lighter is probably a fuse, satnav chargers do this a lot when they're loose in the plug. If you have a 12v accessory plug, use this in future.

Would I be able to change the fuse myself? How much would it cost to get a mechanic to do it? I'm sure I could manage it.

Are vw golf wipers straight forward to install?

Changing a fuse is in the Manual.
Any petrol station/garage/motor factors will have them

You won't find the blades in petrol stations, golfs use flat blades

Check the master switch on the driver's door, this switch allows only the driver to open the windows. It could simply be set to on.

Cig lighter - have you tried plugging in another device, ie mobile phone charger to see if it is the lighter itself or the sat nav charger. Some of these chargers are known to be incompatible with the cig lighter socket or as others suggest it could have shorted out the fuse.

If you are stuck Halfords or a motor factors will have the wiper blades. Halfords will definately charge you extra for fitting them but a regular motor factors might fit them for you if you ask nicely and give them a few quid for their trouble.

Halfords charge €3.99 for fitting, you'd hardly throw the fella in the motor factors less than that for his trouble. Be pretty funny if you offered him €1 to fit wiper blades for you!

A lot of places would throw them on for you for free if they weren't too busy.

VW parts are not that expensive, I think the rear blade cost about 8 euros a year ago and I fitted it myself. Go to a VW Service centre, walk up to the parts counter and buy them. The rear wiper blade can be a bit confusing but you can do it yourself and the front wipers should be pretty straightforward. It's explained in the manual.

I'd have to agree.. relatively speaking VW parts (while not cheap either) aren't too bad - it's the labour costs that kill you. :(
(Which is why I go up North - last time i was up it was £40 vs €95 ex-VAT per hour... easy decision really!)

Anyway, if the Golf is anything like my same-year Passat it's handy enough to fit them yourself.
