Me thinks Opel had a good look at the Metro when they came up with the Corsa ;)

250bhp? The original group B Metro's had over 500bhp didn't they? Or was that maybe de-tuned after Group B was banned so it could continue rallying?

I remember being at the Donegal Intl. Rally way back. 1984/5 or so?

The 6R4 was just being run by Tony Pond, but had to retire early. They ran it on for development purposes and used it as a course car. The engine note was awesome and it absolutely flew.

I doubt it. No turbo on a 6R4.

The 200 sold for the road had 250 ish bhp, later competion ones were restricted by engine size after the Group B banning, dunno about the one in the add. It seems to be a competition version (from the reference to not being raced) but with the bhp of the roadgoing ones. Group B cars were 410bhp and nasp.

    F knows :pac:

i think there isa welsh guy still rallying one he runs it in the historic and often drives it in anger for short bursts i also thought some of the group b hit 500 bhp to compete with audi quattro and ford rs 200

There's one in Cork with tiny mileage on it, in mint condition. The full Rally spec.

After thinking, it's no doubt a road going one, when they mention it hasn't been raced they just mean exactly that :pac: So 250bhp is correct.

Seen these things used for rallycross in Mondello and they were an awesome beast! IIRC, Denis Biggerstaff raced one down there that had a 0-60 time quicker than an F1 car at the time

    Just a few points.

Group B was banned from competition during the middle of '86 and the last group B cars ran in full Group B spec at the end of '86.

The 6R4 was allowed to compete in national rallies here and in the UK when it ran a detuned 2.5 engine on multiple throttle bodies, or a 2.8 with a restrictor, resulting in 250hp ish. The full house Group B engine was pushing out 400hp (supposidly) and the engine went to power the Jag XJ220

To achieve homologation (I think that was obtained in mid '85), 200 examples of the cars had to be built and counted. Most Group B cars were no longer put into any serious production, and once the 200 were built, they didn't build any more. To get the build date, no doubt there is somebody on the classic car forum that can decode the chassis number and get the build date off that. I'm not sure if MG built the car 5 years after Group B was banned, or was the car first registered in '91.

If the car was maintiaind beyond compare, why are the headlights at funny angles?

I recall that a company in the UK (Dax I think) built a few 6R4's a few years after the demise of Group B but they based them on the later Rover 100 shape bodywork. I think that a few "square" ones were built as well.....

As for the one in Cork, I can think of two in Cork. One former road car in rally spec with Rothmans colours. The other is in Carragaline and was out last weekend at the West Cork Rally

They were never meant to be used on the road like the 200 off versions of the Quattros, 205 T16s, RS200s etc.

MG Rover made 200 'clubman' rally cars with 250bhp, and around 20 'international' rally cars for the factory team (and rich customers) with 400+bhp. Many clubman spec cars were upgraded afterwards.
I've never seen a metro 6R4 which has never been used for competition, which makes this even more rare!

You'd be looking at big big money for one of the original international ones, €150k+
But seeing as this one is possibly even rarer than them expect the bidding to climb. If it goes for anything under €100k its a bargain!

If I remember correctly, the engine out of these went into the Jaguar XJ220 of all cars.
