    Well everyone,
Im looking for a bit of advice,
I want to know whats the best shotgun load for foxes,
Was out sunday on a few baits with the club but all i had with me were 34g 4s. There just not enough.
What i want is something that will give a humain kill out as far as possible.
I assume BBs but what brand and weight,
My gun is o/u with full chokes and can take a 3" shell
    Any advice would be helpfull
    Cheers
    Dave

i find Eley Alphamax BB 42gr the best, i also use noble 2s which is good shell. myself an another lad got a box of hull BB each and couldnt hit a thing seemed very slow! from what the semi auto lads say magnum shells are pretty hard hitting

Eley alphamax magnum 46g BB. Absolute top shell for charlie imo. I've been using them for ages and have never had to take a second shot to finish off a fox! Also,at 15 quid for a box of 25 they're not bad value either...

36 gram BB's, limit range to 40 yards or so, shoot him side on, dead is dead.

IMO I always found 2's good for driven hunting, or maybe a 3 in the 1st barrel and a 0 in the top! BB's are fairly severe on the jaw from my o/u so would only really use dem if lamping when you would really be expecting a 1 shot kill whereas by day you would almost aways need a second shot at a running target!

If it has a 3" chamber you'll be sound. Get yourself a box and enjoy! :-)

Ill enjoy, my shoulder might not though:D
Kicks like a horse with even 34g 5s so BBs could kill me.
Wont be shooting big amounts of them anyway id say 50 shells would do the year.
    Thanks for the advice.

Anytime bud, oh, I remember the first time I fired a magnum. It was a 56g 0 and I had to walk across two fields to get my collarbone back! :-)

If there are medical students reading this thread, they're going to start specializing in shoulder surgery. I have used big loads, but there's no need for them, especially in a gun that's going to make you feel every gram. Larger pellets will have larger holes in their patterns and will reduce your effective range/result in a wounding. In my experience BB's or just slightly below in size, are just the job. Handy recoil, good range, good pattern.

You can fire a scud missile at a fox, but if it doesn't hit him... You can throw pebbles at him and they'll bounce off.

Compromise, and get the best cart to do the job right.

No problem, just the baits seem to be riddled with foxes this year,
We got 27 in the last 6 sundays.
Better to have them than want them!!!

Normal week we have 6 guns and about 8 baiters.
We have 11 beagles and 4 terriers.
Alot of baits are long and narrow which makes it easier,
we had 4 foxes run from the one bait last week thats the reason i was askin about shells coz i missed my one:mad: but the fool turned the wrong way and up to another gun who nailed him:D

Decided to get some Alpamax Magnum 42g BB's.
Savage shell. Went out today to a bait, just at the end of the bait out comes a big vixen over the bank, she saw me and took off, About 25/30 yards out i let fly, i might as well have hit her with the jeep.
She must have flipped 3 times.
    Happy now. :D
    Cheers for the advice lads.

Not for politeness Dave, but accuracy. 'bait' being something to lure and 'beat' being what is done to drive out your quarry. But I have to say I did get what you meant. :)
