    Havent had a bowl of these for years..decided to buy a box instead of the unhealthy crisps and chocolate for those late nite snacks...
    So i got them ready and plonked down to watch the 9 o' clock news...mmmmm crunchy, ...memories came flooding back...but this was short lived....after a couple of minutes the flakes had turned to this horrible tasteless pulp ...i could'nt get half way through the bowlful before i abandoned them and went and made a cuppa and toast..
    Have they changed that much..are all cereals the same nowadays...or was i meant to scoff down the whole bowlful in less that two minutes....:(

    For sale....Almost complete box of delicious Kellogs Cornflakes...offers..:o

    Salt levels may have gone down. Well apart from the flavour changing or not changing(might just be your taste buds with age) they can't stick free gifts in the box like they use to.

    Did you use warm or cold milk? I find with warm milk that they can turn to mush.

    The box contains more nutrition than the cornflakes.

    It's an old saying meaning that cornflakes have so little nutrition in them that there would be more from eating the box ;)
    You didn't really think that you would be better off eating the box instead of the cornflakes :rolleyes:

    Yeah something to do with promoting them to young kids but the fast food companies still seem to have the Happy Meal freebies. Do its a bit crazy if you think about it that they use to stick small plastic objects without outer protective wrapping in loose food in the 60s-70s.

    why not mate :confused::confused:

    Studies in the States showed the cereals high in sugar that contained toys attracted kid pressure to buy so the companies were encouraging fat kids. Back in the day you and me would walkor cycle that off going to school but now its so unsafe out there the lazy little buggers have to be driven everywhere. I think the cereal industry may have withdrawn the toys as an industry wide iniative.

    Cornflakes were meant to be bland, auld Dr Kellogg would be appalled at the thought of tasty crunchy nut cornflakes, he was a nutcase.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_flakes
    Kellogg believed that spicy or sweet foods would increase passions. In contrast, cornflakes would have an anaphrodisiac property and lower the sex drive.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harvey_Kellogg
    Kellogg strongly warned against the habit in his own words, claiming of masturbation-related deaths "such a victim literally dies by his own hand," among other condemnations. He felt that masturbation destroyed not only physical and mental health, but the moral health of individuals as well. Kellogg also believed the practice of "solitary-vice" caused cancer of the womb, urinary diseases, nocturnal emissions, impotence, epilepsy, insanity, and mental and physical debility; "dimness of vision" was only briefly mentioned.

    Drastic measures

    Kellogg worked on the rehabilitation of masturbators, often employing extreme measures, even mutilation, on both sexes. He was an advocate of circumcising young boys to curb masturbation and applying phenol (carbolic acid) to a young woman's clitoris.
