Can I claim my tax back?

I'm from the north but currently living and working in the south. I am considering a possible move back to Northern ireland for work and was wondering if I do move back, am I eligible to claim my tax back for this year? I would be living and working in Northern Ireland for a company based up there so I would no longer be paying tax down here (I assume?)

I was under the impression that if you only work a certain amount of the year here and then leave, you are entitled to claim the tax back you paid up until that point.

Or actually, it's something along the lines of you are taxed with the assumption you will be working the full year, but if you only work a certain number of months then you won't have gone over the amount you could earn tax free and would be entitled to a rebate?

Anyway, I'm not sure of the regulations but I thought it was something like that.

I haven't made any definite decisions yet, but the job market here isn't really fantastic at the moment and while I still have a job, it may be ending in June so I'm keeping my options open.

If you are tax resident here for the year, you will be entitled to your full tax credits for the year, that is what may give you a tax refund, if you leave the ROI and claim split year treatment.

Send your P45 to the tax office when you cease employment with a Form P50 to reclaim any tax refund.

Depending on how long you have been here (or how short) you may be taxable on this income on the UK, but with a credit for any Irish tax paid.

You need to review your tax residence status in the first instance.
