Bus Éireann, route 12 and Limerick-Adare?

Bit of a spin!

Is Limerick Bus Station in Limerick city? (don't know Limerick at all). Does the 12 go to Adare? or clonshire?

I am traveling from Dublin. I looked at the website, I used farefinder and I got same day return for €28.50. Then I clicked on Popular Express Way Routes and found sdr for €19.80. Both on the No 12. I assume that the latter is an internet fare while the former is the walkup fare? Handy if I could pay the cheaper one on walk up as I don't have a credit card. Is there a taxi rank outside the bus station

The bus station is the train station also. Its on top of a hill near the centre of Limerick. You should be able to get a taxi.

You get route 12 to Limerick and then change to route 13 to Adare.

€19.80 only gets you to Limerick, leaving you 18km short. Thats an expensive taxi ride.

Get number 12 to Limerick

Get the number 13 or 14 from Limerick to Adare depending on which hour you take. You should book all of it in Dublin as it would be cheaper.

Do not get a taxi to Adare!

By the way, taking the bus from Dublin to Limerick takes long enough as it spends a lot of time off the motorways visiting towns en-route. If you are travelling off-peak (leaving from Dublin mid-morning, leaving Limerick mid-afternoon) check Irish rail's website as it can be €25 return and that's two and a half hour's journey time. Price varies a lot for different times - €30, €44, even €58, so play around if you have any room for manoeuvre on price/times at all (even different early morning/late evening trains have some variation in price).

As others have pointed out, the bus station is co-located with the train station so it's not much bother to get the bus to Adare from there. If you have time to kill in between connections but don't want to head in to the shops in Limerick, then I'd recommend Platform 5 (café/restaurant) in the station which has reasonable food/coffee, armchairs and apparently free wi-fi (haven't used it yet). The street right outside the train/bus station in Limerick is one of the more run-down "traditional" city streets but has a good chipper (Luigi's) and an authentic kind of traditional café (Red Rose) that does a good fried breakfast. It's just over 5 mins walk to the more modern cafés/pubs on Thomas St./Bedford Row. (Turn right and walk right down the street outside the station until you reach the top of a re-modelled street on the left, then walk down that street).
