Hi doing a duathlon on saturday 22k cycle 16k run, as i am a novice wondered what would be best to wear cycling or running shorts, would imagine the cycle shorts might be uncomfortable for the run .

You'd probably get away with either. Have you tried running in your cycling shorts ?

I think I used my cycling shorts, or if it bothers you get some Tri shorts which have a bit less padding than regular cycling shorts.

seems like a very unusual duathlon distance wise.usually its 3-5k run 15-25k cycle and 3-5k run to finish.
I would suggest wearing normal running/bicycle shorts without padding and if you are to wear padding get a light shammy in a proper tri suit.
if you don't see yourself doing anymore then don't invest in the tri suit.
where is the duathlon taking place btw?

Sorry thats the total distance, its 4k run 8k cycle, 8k run, 15k cycle and 4k run to finish, its the harlequin in castlebar. Thanks for the advice, think i might go with the running shorts as i have not ran in cycle shorts before and getting a bit late now for practice !

Tri shorts if you have them, less padding. Otherwise cycling shorts as them roads are nice and bumpy and will you with a sort bum.

Anything bar the cycling shorts. Any decent cycling shorts will slow you down significantly on the run with the padding. Your bum wont be too sore after such a short cycle. HTFU and run a better time

Should be fine with running shorts at that distance.

Although, its billed as an 'adventure duathlon' so if there is any chance of getting wet, the race could get painful if your shorts get soaked. The chaffing can be unbearable

IF you have to wear running shorts, ensure you rub loads of vaseline inside your legs, I got caught with bad shorts last year and I my legs were skinless by the time I had finished and pure raw. ;)
