Imports

My father bought a Japanese import back in the 90's and later found out it had been clocked and had a bad experience with the whole thing. He did get a refund in court and the business did go bust. Hence he is very anti imports.

Currently I am looking at a car that was imported from the UK and is now registered in Ireland. Are there any extra concerns with imports? Are parts the same whether the car is UK or Irish. Anything I should be aware of?

    check for rust.
    **check the mileage***
mileage can be checked by having the service history and old MOT certs. 90% of UK people keep their service history, so when somebody tells you its a UK import and no history available, i would walk away.

with all the floods over there in recent times, you have to make sure it wasnt a floater!

then its all the same tbh, you have to do your usual checks etc etc mechanical / crash damage.

ps - with all your questions, you'd be better off with a mega thread asking them all in one place.

Verifiable sevice history, regardless of where it's from, be it an original Irish car or anywhere else, is what people should always be looking for.
