What does everyone think of him? I can't find another thread on this and havnt stumbled across anyones opinions of him really.
I think he's been a breath of fresh air since his inception last year but a bit disappointed he's been dropped down to midcard status with the Corre. He's really good on the mike and I wonder when he's going to get another push towards world title belts.

Plus its also great to have more British Isles people in WWE!

I like him, and think it is a good thing he has gone down to the midcard. He was not ready to top a card. He is positioned perfectly at the moment with a stable around him in the mid card working with veterans like Show and Kane.

My only disappointment is, and it is not Barretts fault, how Nexus broke up. The whole thing ended stupidly, and the whole story of it conveniently disappeared, along with the reasonless idea to have them bury Taker Alive.

    I really like Wade.

He has had a weird debut year. From wearing the rose on his Jacket, winning NXT, leading Nexus, having a chance at winning the WWE title, feuding with the star of wrestling John Cena, Burying the Undertaker, ending up on Smackdown with the Corre.

I think he could well be in Miz' position now as WWE champion and he wouldn't have let anyone down. Probably a WHC in 2011.

Could be a brilliant champ heel after miz and del rio have a go.

He has a long and fruitful place in WWE i think. We could be only skimming the surface.

Maybe he should win a MITB before he wins the championship? IMO that'd be better for his character to develop, getting one over on a face champ etc.

    oh yeah definitely.
I mean just give him a shot against a face and not a heel.

I'm pretty new to wrestling so have there been many British/Irish faces in WWE ever? What was British Bulldog, face or heel?

I'd have thought they would have prefered the sterotypical British/Irish bad guy!

Meet Sheamus, a two time WWE champion.
As home grown as they come from dublin.

In the long run, not really, but WWE's become more international in recent years. Found it funny on Another Forum when Sheamus debuted on Raw there was a comment - without a hint of irony - saying there were now too many Irish wrestlers in WWE.

That I can think of, there has, on WWE TV as part of the roster, been:

    Finlay (Irish)
    Sheamus (Irish)
    Hornswoggle
    Lord Alfred Hayes (English)
    British Bulldog (English)
    Dynamite Kid (English)
    William Regal (English)
    Dave Taylor (English)
    Paul Burchill (English)
    Wade Barrett (English)
    Katie Lea (English)
    Layla El (English)
    Drew McIntyre (Scottish)
    Robbie McAllister (Scottish)
    Rory McAllister (Scottish)
    Mason Ryan (Welsh)

Wasnt really ready when he was called up I dont think he still is. His accent/diction makes people think his promos are better than they are actually are.

Isn't that what a promo is all about though, creating an illusion to convince the audience of how good you are, regardless or whether or not you actually are good.

Maybe you could add The Dublin Destroyer to that list, god knows if he is actually from Dublin though :o

Another US born wrestler who used an Irish gimmick in the 80's was Jobber Brian Costello, known as the Crippler before Benoit :)

Both. He will be remebered primarily as a face in the tag team The british Bulldogs. He playe a sorta heel as part of the Hart Foundation. I say sorta as they were heels in America, faces in every other country.

He came back for a singles run in the late 90s as a heel and was absolutely terrible.

I think he needs a decent feud as a singles competitor and maybe now
as he is the new IC champion he might get that with Kofi
but I think a feud with Rey would be a better option, he is great on the mic but needs to improve in the ring

Totally agree he has a very bland style a bit like JBL,Sheamus for instance is miles ahead of him in the ring.Another thing that annoys me about him is that he talks like he's chewing a apple & hasn't decided whether to swallow the mouthfull.

    Source

WWE creative writers are contemplating repackaging Wade Barrett and giving
    him a strong push

I would have put with Heyman over Curtis and Ryback

they should properly push the Bad News Barrett gimmick on RAW/SD imo.

Second time he will have been repackaged in recent history.

What was his gimmick before though? He had none....it's great that they are makin distinguishable characters again!

I'm a fan of him but WWE do this thing where they have a talent, but he's 5 years "too young" to get a decent push so they initially push him then throw him back into the pond for years on end. I've no doubt he'll be a much bigger star in a few years. It's a shame territories aren't around that he could have a career somewhere else before making it big in WWE. Think he's good on the mic, and a big dude, and a unique background (well, by virtue of being British) so he's everything WWE want so it'll happen for him sooner or later (probably later).
Second time he will have been repackaged in recent history.

Yeah, it makes the name of his finisher "the winds of change" very sad.

Wade would be a better fit for Del Rios role as the ruthless champion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭Ridley

Just make him what they promised with those Fight Clubesque return vignettes he was doing rather than simply giving him the IC title and deeming that to be enough.

He could be good as a one man APA of sorts, I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭bobby_says_hi

Is there any record of him ever wrestling as a face anywhere? All his indie matches are as a heel. If he's been in WWE for nearly four years without much success, it might be time to turn him to see how he does with that

Made a thread on the Observer board about Bad News Barrett after being appalled at Bryan not knowing about the gimmick. Then hours later Meltzer reports this about Barrett. I think I reminded Meltzer Barrett exists.
