My father had his house broken into in town on Monday night.

They discharged a fire extinguisher covering all the downstairs in a white dust.

This covered the house in a fine dust and destroyed some of his clothes and curtains.

He had an acer laptop stolen. It was one like this.

    http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Extensa_EX5630EZ-422G16Mn_Laptop_LX.ECX0X.059/version.asp

With a laptop bag, mouse and 3 dongle.

The serial number of the laptop was LXECX0X059907094FB2000

If you are offered this laptop for sale or come across it please PM me or contact the Gardai.

Yes House was wrecked impossible to get rid of the dust.

He is going to have to get professional cleaners to clean the house.

Hoping that they scumbags can be traced through the laptop.

It was some shock to him as he is over 70 and never experienced anything like this before.

He left his passport in the laptop case for safe keeping and it is a load of hassle getting another one.

Look at the positive side, your dad could have been home and could have been hurt - or worse. You can replace a laptop but not a Father, I hope they get the scum.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope he's okay. I have some (pretty crap) curtains he could have if he's stuck.

    He lives up in Crozon.

Speaking to the Guards who arrived that night they were very busy as there were 4 house robberies that night.

I would advise everyone to be careful and to set their alarm everytime they leave the house.

Fair play to the Guards they were sound and I came accross other Guards in town where they were of great assistance to older people.

Dads house was the only one that was vandalised with a fire extinguisher.

In the snow a Guard arrived at my mother in laws house in town to check she was ok for food and fuel and to check if they could get her any stuff in the shop.

Thanks for the offer of the curtains. The ones he has are OK but he will probably replace them sometime in the future as I don't think the power will come out of them.

Detectives came the next day to check out the house as well.

I was hoping that the laptop could be used to trace back to the culprits so they don't do this to some one else.

That's shocking. We'll keep an eye out for the laptop. Hubby repairs them so if it gets left into him I'll let you know.

    Great thanks for that.

It was a great to get the serial number.

If he spots it, it might help the Gardai to track the culprits.

Jesus sorry to hear that. That's a horrible thing to have done. Must be young ones who did it if they let off an extinguisher  I hope you're Dad wasn't home when it happened.

If ya need help with anything don't be afraid to shout out here, still some sound sorts around to give a hand ;)

Thanks everyone for their kind comments and offers of help etc..

The insurance company came out and they have organised specialist cleaners to come to the house to clean the dust etc...
So in a couple of days the house should be back to normal.

Lucky he was not there as it appears they had left the house a couple of hours before he came home.

So far no joy on the laptop, I assume it will be covered by insurance however I was hoping that it could be used to catch the people that done it.

The neighbors were also an excellent help to him as well.

If I get any further word on the investigation etc... I will post it here.

    Many thanks

It's no use now, but there are programs you can install on your laptop which will use your webcam and mic to take pictures, video and audio if you flag it as stolen.

This one is open source and free:
