I see cork and limerick have invited the US President which was reported in their local papers, however, waterford today this week has no mention of whether we have invited him. If not. Why not?

If the Tall Ships were a few months earlier, maybe. You are all welcome to come up to Cork and shore up the local economy though when he comes ;)

He has been invited to Cork & Limerick but does that mean he'll go? Like I'll invite him to a boards beers when he's here. He can even crash at mine, doesn't mean much.

I agree though, had Waterford Crystal been here in it's former glory there may have been an outside chance.

I wouldn't invite him here at all.

The place is embarassing right now.

Does not matter whether he comes or not,we don't do ourselves any favors with coming across as an important place in Ireland if we don't invite him do we??

He along with the Queen have been invited to New Ross :D

It's not about whether they will come, because we know they wouldn't, it's just that sending the invitation is seen as the done thing.

Although Ross may have a chance if he has any interest in JFK. haha

He's meant to be considering a visit to Kilkenny town:

"In addition to Moneygall, officials are understood to be considering a visit to St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny. A tomb there holds the remains of Bishop John Kearney, who was Mr Obama’s great-great-great-granduncle and became provost of Trinity College in 1799."

Mightn't be out of the question for him to take a trip down to Waterford. Perhaps a presentation at Waterford Crystal?

    Obama receives Waterford invite
By Dermot Keyes. Published on Friday, March 25th, 2011 at 1:38 pm A ‘very serious’ invitation, to quote Mayor Mary Roche, has been extended by Waterford City Council to US President Barack Obama, who will visit Ireland in May.
And with similar invitations extended to the President from both New Ross and Kilkenny Borough Councils, the prospect of his visiting the region between May 23rd and 28th cannot be ruled out.
