Ford Mondeo 2008 CO2 UK vs Ireland

    Guys,

I moved to the uk early this year, and going to be living here for a year or little more, and have been looking at buying a second hand car. I think I am going to go for a Ford Mondeo, fully specced Titanium X, was also looking at the Insignia, but slighty out of my price.

Have about 10000GBP to spend on car, but want to keep it closer to 9000.

Anyways, I am hoping to avail of the free VRT thing when I go back to Ireland late next year, so I can save a bit when importing the vehicle back.

The thing that is confusing me is the CO2 emissions on the UK vs Irish 2008 models,
    UK autotrader - Ford Focus Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium X - 139g/km
    Ire vrt.ie - Ford Focus Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium X - 154g/km

Can anyone confirm that autotrader is in fact correct, I tried looking at the ford uk website, and ford owners website, but couldn't find the right confirmed info for the 2008 models, I think they updated the engines in the UK around March 08. What is the best way to check this info when going to look at a car? Cos, when I bring it back to Ireland it should be in the 154euro tax band which would be nice, if those bands don't change of course

    eg. http://www.talkford.com/files/category/3-mondeo/

    Thanks,
    Mac

The 2008 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Titanium X 6 speed manual has a co2 rating of 156g which puts it into Tax Band D meaning it costs €447 to tax per year.

The CO2 figures for the 2.0 TDCi Mondeo have changed over time - first it was 156 CO2 (tax band D - €447), then it changed to 154 for 2009 (tax band C - €302) and from mid 2010 the CO2 figure has been 139, or €156 tax.

If you're importing, remember that VRT is also charged on emissions, so particularly with the older and less CO2 friendly models, the OP may very well be better off buying an Irish car - you could be paying quite a bit of VRT for bringing in a 2008 Mondeo that is in VRT band D.

I think you will be VRT exempt as you will have owned the car for more than 6 months in another state. You will need proof of this when returning. Just the Motor Tax to be concerned about;)

    Thanks for the reply guys,
I am indeed hoping to get the VRT exemption next year, when I moved back. just need to prove address, and work etc.

Still unsure about the CO2 level for the 08 mondeo in the uk, did they upgrade the engine during 2008. More wondering about what tax band it falls into in Ireland. I emailed the autotrader website. So lets see if they get back to me, with the appropriate answer.

The emmissions rating will be listed on the car's V5 registration document. This is what Revenue will go by when you import it here.
