Small Claims Query

I am currently having a dispute with an Irish owned air line, regarding reimbursment of costs arising from a cancelled flight in Italy around christmas. The airline are seriously resisting and offered only 1/4 of what I claimed for food, accomodation and travel, and from the tone of correspondence I doubt they will be backing down despite being entirely wrong as far as my understanding of the relevant law is correct.

I am not seeking legal advice, rather I want to know that should it get to that stage, can I bring them to the small claims court?

The amount involved is well below 1000, and I know nothing about pursuing such small claims, and I am concerned that because the actual cancellation occured in Italy I will not be able to do so in Ireland?
    Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the link, it was very informative. It seems to me so from reading that that I couldnt make such a claim. Is anyone aware of what avenue I might have for pursuing the money owed to me should the negotiations not work out?

I have dealt with SMC and generally when you are in the right the respondent usually pays without any hassle. So long as the contract was concluded in Ireland, it would come under this jurisdiction even if the flight was in Italy and the limit for a SMC is €2000. I would put the claim under services. What were the T&C of your flight?
