I reckon FIS would be better value so to speak, you would really want to go into your nearest community info office and do the sums with them.

the person working could apply for FIS.their partner could apply for JSB/JSA,if they qualified for either payment ,they could get a personal rate plus half rate for the 2 kids.Apply for both and you will recieve whichever is more beneficial to you.

What is a half rate of pay??. is this on top of your normal allowance would one person still get the half rate of pay for the other persons child even if there not guardians / parent of the child

sorry to be confusing its just its a strange situation the male has full custody of his child so he is his dependant and the female has her child and he is her dependant

If you are cohabitation as a couple and your children live with you then youse would be considered as a Family Unit. You would no longer be entiltled to the One Parent Family Payment, your partner could apply for fis and you could but in for an unemployment assistant payment such as JA, you would be means tested on your partners earnings. There is an increase payment for Qualified Child Dependant, so you may get a half rate payment depending on your partners earnings.

You say your partner earns €294. So for FIS with a family size iof two children you could get a payment up to €184.80.

IF you apply for JA you would be also assessed on the €294, with certain disregards, they work it out from the Full Family rate of €188+€124.80+€29.80+€29.80 = €€372.40. So they would disregard €20 a day up to a max of €60. so im not sure the amount of days your partner works, but if she did work 3 days 294-60=234 the they disregard 60% of this which would leave €140.40, so then they take the 140.40 from the FR of 372.40 which would leave you then with €232.

So the rate of JA would be €232. this would be based on the full family rate, but you may only get the half child increase due to your partners earnings.

You partner can claim FIS if you do no claim for her as a qualified adult on your jobseekers payment.

If there is no other income into the household than €294 p/w and that figure is net pay .Your partner would recieve €185 FIS p/w.

So the rate of JA would be €232. this would be based on the full family rate, but you may only get the half child increase due to your partners earnings.
You can only get half rate child dependant rate if your partner decides to get FIS

The means assessed for your Ja claim from your partners earnings will be halfed.
I added the parts in bold.made a mess of multi quoting Granger13's post.
