Want to overhaul my laptop

    I posted recently about a dodgy NIC and video card.

    I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1848 running XP Pro. I would like to know if replacing many components in the laptop is possible. These are the following upgrades i'd be looking at:

    1GB RAM --> 2GB RAM (max possible apparently)
    ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 --> ?????? (suggestions?)
    Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG --> probably the same

    Are the any other components i could upgrade that would make an impact on performance. Happy enough with my hard drive and OS. The graphics card is very dated at this stage and is probably the priority - it wouldn't need to be top of the range; in fact just a combination of cheap and compatible!

    Can the graphics card be updated on your laptop? Some graphics cards are welded to the motherboard and so cant be upgraded without upgrading the motherboard. Other then adding more ram or adding a new larger/faster hard drive I've never seen any benefit in upgrading a laptops components.

    RAM upgrade would help, if it's a limiting factor at the moment (i.e if running out of it)

    Graphics not upgradeable

    Wireless, you could but why bother?

    Overall your laptop should be good for anything but gaming. No reason why it should be running slow or slugish unless your OS needs a clean up.

    If the graphics card is playing up you have problems. They are rarely upgradeable on laptops and there's no point upgrading your ram if the card is nackered.
