    Hi,
    I'm looking for a 40" tv, max budget €600, ideally €500.
I'd like one that'll work with saorview, willbe used for general tv watching & films (no gaming).
I plan to buy a Freeview PVR (for recording, pausing etc) or one that'll work for both Irish and other channels (if available in the future).

50HZ or 100HZ- I don't know, some people say there's very little difference, some say 100HZ is better for sports.

full HD or HD ready- I suppose full HD is better? I

Some that I've looked at include-
    Sony KDL-40EX402
    Sony EX401
    Samsung LE40C530.
But I'm open to any one at all, doens't have to be from above 3
I know they'll all do a good job but any recommendation? I'd like to make my mind up (or have it made up for me) and just get one this weekend.
    Cheers,
    Pa.

Without going too much into it OP, i would recommend the Samsung 40C530 from those choices, that is ignoring the extra media capabilities of the 40EX403. In short, the Samsung's build quality is superior IMHO and the picture processing will be slightly superior on the Samsung also

    Thanks.
does is have mpeg4/will Saorview work with it?
I've checked on pixmania but can't find the detail. In fact Pixmania doesn't seem to list mpeg4 for any tv....

I've just spotted this LG, which is 42" ( I know I said I wanted 40" but...) and is 100HZ.

Both of those sets will work with Saorview, dont you worry, and you should be able to get the Samsung for under 500€ in some shops in this country

As for that LG, yeah 100Hz does have its uses but you will be sacrificing other area's, mainly black level, that wont be as strong as a sony or samsung set(sony and samsung use the same panels).

On an aside, many people on boards will tell you not to buy from pixmania if you can get t for anywhere near the same price anyhere else. They have an awful reputation around here..

The Samsung tv's are Saorview compatible yeah?

I'm betting it's not ! If it was bought in the UK then it most likely has Freeview which isn't the same ! Just looked at the Amazon website for that TV and it's not mentioned anywhere that it's compatible with Saorview but does mention Freeview.
