Hi guys. I'd like to get your advice on contacting a large retail chain, Woodies.

I have a pretty unique business proposal for them. I'm currently abroad, so can't make an appointment to see them.

I have no problem calling them... but, being a big chain, who do I call?

Do I call individual stores and ask for the manager? or do I call head office and ask for the marketing department?

I believe it's very difficult to get your foot in the door... saw someone on dragons den having a go.

    Any tips?

It has nothing to do with individual stores. You must talk to the Head office and if its a product just send a sample through their door and ring them a few days later.

You will have to meet them . Its all or nothing and thats assuming you get a foot in the door. Your best bet is starting with small DIY chains and then going to the big guys saying" Look this is working very well in all these stores and it will do the same for you"

Great advice, thanks. Yes, I was thinking that would be a good move, make a success of it with a smaller operation first.

    Cheers.

The likes of the very large chains will probably try to get exclusivity on your product which means you,ll be tied in to one customer and a very large customer at that who will more then likely try hammer you down on cost. As advised smaller maybe better to start and then approach the big guys. The small guys will be easier to bargain with especially as most of the small diy chains are independently owned stores trading under a central suppliers name.
