Whats dreaming about?

Last night I was deprived of 5 hours sleep. When I eventually got a chance to sleep I had the weirdest dream. I had a very vivd dream of a castle on top of a green hill. Some sort of machinery came along and smashed it to pieces. I tried to shelter myself and my mother from the flying pieces of debris. I then found myself in an miltary operations room wearing old style military dress and there were soldiers around me planning operations or something.
Are dreams suppose to have meaning? I cant understand something as crazy as this.

Dreams are just your brain's way of processing information, or alerting your conscious mind of things bothering the subconscious. Quite fascinating to look into really, but they rarely have any significance. If you have a recurring dream though it's always interesting to examine them - there's usually a good reason it keeps popping back up again.

Wrong, cos last night I dreamed I was playing in the next world cup which takes place in 2014.
