Getting Car Deposit back

I left a small deposit on a car, in a dealers, and ended up buying a different car last minute elsewhere with better spec. Is there any way, by law, to get this back!? I rang him and told him the story and he refuses to give it back . I understand his point of view but have I a leg to stand on here?

That is what the deposit is for.

Unfortunately you changed your mind, so are not entitled to the deposit back, unless you have it in writing that the deposit was refundable.

"I told him the story" .. what story? The story being you bought another car?

    No leg to stand on

As previously mentioned, it depends on the terms of the deposit agreement - specifically, was the deposit refundable?

Depending on any agreement you signed when you handed the deposit over, they could actually sue you to force you to complete the sale.

I signed no agreement at all! I got a receipt saying I paid a 100E deposit towards the car, it doesnt mention anything about refundable/nonrefundable. I know the situation is my fault but i'd like to get my money back.

I would be of the opinion that the deposit is therefore non-refundable.

Not their fault that you changed your mind.

Next time, make your mind up before you put down any deposit.

^ Agree. You can't get this back. Arn't you glad the other presumably better option came along before you completed the purchase on the first one ? Enjoy the new wheels.
