Halfords recommending a wiring loom/harness adapter

    Hi,

I offered to put in a cd player in my brother's new car since I'd installed my own last year (well, installed might be the wrong word, I just plugged it in, basically:)).

I've found one that suits and when I checked whether it would fit the car it said it would but an essentiall additional purchase was a harness adapter. I'm a bit sceptical as my own car was a 2000 Golf and it didn't need a harness adapter and neither have any of of my mates' cars of around that age. I have a feeling this would turn out to be a pointless extra despite their suggestion. Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

The car is a 2003 Polo and the stereo is this.

    Ta.

Afaik you need an adopter if your installing a new radio, could it be that you and your friend were replacing a radios that wasn't the originals as that would explain why you didn't need to buy and adopter as ir was already in your cars?

    Thanks for the response.

No, we both replaced the original cassete players from my Golf (2000) and his Polo (which was around the same age).

I got a Sony CD player and he got a JVC (from memory) and both just plugged in without having to buy a harness.

    Halfords are robbers.

If you do happen to need an iso wiring harness just search eBay for "volkswagen polo iso harness"

Yeah you'll be better off buying it on ebay. Just go into halfords and tell them the kind of car you have, assuming it's an iso adapter they'll point out the correct one for 30 quid. Note the part number (normally SOT-XXX) and buy it off ebay for 12-15 quid delivered.

That's if you don't mind the wait of course...

    Cheers guys.

I had the afternoon free so I popped in and bought the stereo. Fitted it within two minutes, same as the last time. No harness adapter needed. The only mod was swapping the red and yellow wires so the channels were stored when the keys were removed from the ignition.

    'Essential' my arse.:)
