I hope the show feels it does enough to stand out. My first thought was "another procedural?" to be honest... I'll give it a go though.

Watched about 15 minutes and stopped. It's far too much like Lie to Me and the Mentalist, but without the flare or the charisma of the previous two characters. To me, the pilot was a dud.

not good, the climax action scene was a close up of him solving a anagram, that had no reason to exist even in that universe...

plus so many things we've seen before

Just watched the first episode there. Very poor. Been done before and better. The god aspect did remind me of a show called Mysterious Ways that aired about 10 years ago starring Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli from Heroes) that i enjoyed.

    This was fairly pants though.

Watching the first episode of this and it's not too bad. The main character is like a less dickish version of the ones from Lie To Me and The Mentalist. The show tries far too hard to be quirky and unique and the writing isn't very strong but for a little throw away trash it's not the worst way to spend 42 minutes.

On a train atm and catching up on this and it's perfect time killer material. The plots are by the numbers but with a slight twist vut Pierce is an interesting character and really raises the shows overall quality. People compare him to House, the Mentalist, etc but he lacks their pretentious nature and sense of self importance. The hallucinations are used rather well and serve the plot, it's a really fantastic narrative device that allows the inner thoughts to be examined without relying in voice over as more traditional shows would.

Perception is not a great show nor is it one that is startlingly original but it is never boring and certainly head and shoulders above more strsight forward procedurals.

Rachael Leigh Cook looks very young to be an FBI agent imo

According to imdb she is 33 which is nowhere near too young to be an FBI agent. They recruit straight out of college and the age of a newly recruited agent is 23-37 meaning that if she was playing a character in their early to mid 30s she is the perfect age. Really hate how some people look at an actor or actress and say "they look wrong for the role imo". Personally I don't care how young or old an actor is as long as they can give a convincing performance.

She looks 30 at the very least and even if she was only 28 or so then it's still possible that she could be an agent. FBI agents aren't all balding middle aged men, they recruit straight out of college so a good number of new recruits are in their early 20s. Plus what does it matter if she looks 23 as long as tehy convinces in the role then no one should care.

She's not supposed to be some gun totting, trigger happy hard ass. She's supposed to be an intelligent and slightly unimposing figure who is in the FBI based on her college qualifications. If they cast a 23 year old actress who looked 45 would you find it more believable?

Think she is miscast here imo

Miscast because she looks young for her age? I think people have these preconceived notions of how certain professions should be played and when it comes to law enforcement agencies people picture brooding, borderline alcoholic, balding middle aged men who like to end a day by getting drunk and then placing the barrel of their service revolver between their lips. When ever a show offers something different people cry out that that it's unrealistic but guess what she's pretty convincing in the role. I've spoke to a few FBI agents for research and most of them were young (early to mid 30s) college graduates who spent most of their time sitting behind a computer or pouring over records. Only two had ever pulled their gun and only one had fired it in self defence. The FBI is not the glamorous and thrilling entity that TV and film makes it out to be, most agents only work in a consulting capacity. They rarely go in guns blazing into drug dens or take down major crime cartels. Perception gives a pretty accurate depiction of what an average agent does and while there are certain liabilities with the truth it's a fare more grounded and realistic depiction than most.

I could get over her looking young for the role (have done with Claire Danes on Homeland and Rachel Bilson on Hart of Dixie) if she could play it somewhat believeable which she isnt doing imo

I think she's doing a fine job, she's playing a somewhat sassy and intelligent young professional and while she lacks the hard edge of many more traditional depictions of law enforcement agents I find it a nice change of pace.

I really dislike how people think an actor is too young for the role they are playing when in fact they are playing a character their own age. Would you have an issue in real life if you went to a doctor and they looked younger than their 32 years of age? Would you find them hard to take seriously or would you accept the fact that some people age better than others and can retain a youthful look into their 30s and 40s. A friend of mine is now a fully qualified surgeon, he's 33 but to look at him you'd swear he was no more than 22. I'm 26 yet I can't buy alcohol in Tesco without ID and was recently asked for ID when going to the cinema, guy refused to believe that I was over 18. I'd hate to think that people would refuse to take me seriously because I looker yougner than my years.

Watching episode 1 of season 2 and it's quite the enjoyable time killer though sweet Jesus but the green screen work used in the kiss scene was substandard even back in 96.

Quite enjoying the second season. It's a generic procedural elevated by some interesting plots and Daniel's hallucinations really add to the show. I really like how they manifest and forward the plot, the latest episode makes great use of horror cliches and has quite some interesting imagery. I do wish that the opening scenes were somewhat retooled, the manner in which his lectures are the basis for the plot are somewhat contrived and just feel like the writers trying to come across a little too smart for their own good. Though that said it wouldn't surprise me if they ended the show with Daniel wrapped in a straight jacket in a psych ward and it turns out that the entire show was in his imagination
