maybe someone can shed light on this:

have a 98 avensis, it doesnt come with front spotlights, never did. it never really bothered me until i noticed loose connectors up beside the hazard and demister switches behind the dashboard. having investigated further, theres loose connectors coming from the wiring loom for the headlights. so its got me wondering now.

anyone know if these are for the spots? because i know that the button would be beside the demister switch had the lights been as standard. if it is, i might just throw a set in from a scrapyard.

    thanks for looking :)

Have you searched online? You'll probably have more luck searching "foglights" cos thats what they are :)

If it isn't a stupid question, when do you plan on actually using these foglights?

    When it's foggy obviously.

I was hoping the OP would respond to my question. The point being that mods don't allow us to start threads to discuss using foglights.

The OP is asking a very simple question. He's not asking about when to use foglights.

You're just trying to bait him into answering a question which will only serve to drag this thread completely off-topic.

Here's what the charter states in case you forgot:
    * No "why do people not turn off their fog light" threads

its the case in most modern cars that the loom will have the connections there, even if you have the lowest spec car. probably because its easier to just make one loom with everything on it and not use some things rather than have a different loom for every trim level.

i reckon if you went to a scrappers and got the lamps, switch, and relay it would just be a matter of plugging them all in :)

That blank switch is for headlight washers.

Factory switch is on indicator stalk, dealer fit switch would be on right hand side beside headlight height adjuster

    He's asking about spot-lights.
I actually never heard about anything like this, and don't know what are they...
Google is no much help here, because for spotlight it results with something like this:

I assume OP isn't asking about one of those yokes.

It is a simple enough question - regarding the wiring in the OP's car.

    Now back on topic please.

Any idea how much i should pay for a wiring loom for front fog lights on a 02 Avensis?

A bloody fortune. Far as I know the loom is part of the pack you get to add them to a basic model, they're not pre-wired anyway (my 01 isn't anyway).
Easier to get a Hella or Ring loom and fit lights off a scrapper to it. If yours is a diesel, you need lights of a diesel as they're different. If It's a petrol you have, diesel or petrol lights will fit (diesel has an air intake on passenger side unit)
97-00 type lights are different size, you need 00-03 vvti/d-4d type

The toyota loom uses a small square switch like this
