Was talking to mate of mine and a few days ago he got hit wit a fine for no tax. He says the fine isnt a problem and either would paying for 3 months tax its the arrears thst he cant afford there in excess of 400 thats nuts but anyway he recons if he sells the car he would be safe from the tax arrears. I dissagree wouldnt he still be stuck paying for that? Plus its a bit drastic for arrears woulnt he have other options

If he sells the car, the arrears go away.

Depends on the car, if it's a €1000 car then it's worth doing. He could always sell it to his mate Ricky C for €1 and at the start of the next month buy it back for the sum of €1 and have no arrears and still have the car, starts fresh again with the "new" owner ;).

Ya know, the longer you don't pay your tax, the more arrears you owe.

How many months does this €400 represent?

So he feels that driving around without tax for so long should allow him a free period - A kind of bonus. The arrears are simply back payment of tax that he should have paid like everyone else out there.
