Skiing Lake Tahoe area

We're looking at going skiing to the USA next year and have heard good things about Lake Tahoe and Heavenly in particular. Group is made up of intermediates and advanced skiers, skied Meribel the last two years. We'd be planning on heading over for a week. Just wondering has anyone skied there and if so...
How do you rate it compared to Europe?
How easy is it to move between the resorts in the Lake Tahoe resort eg from Heavenly to Squaw Valley?
How many days would you need in Heavenly?
Anything else that's good to know?

    Thanks in advance

Was there years ago. Had only been skiing a couple of times. Snow was fantastic.

We stayed in Reno and drove to each resort each day. Rented skis from there too. Lifts passes were probably more expensive than Europe, but staying in Reno in the casinos means that your accommodation and meals is really cheap.

A lot of the smaller resorts have special offers mid week, so check their sites for them.

You might want to avoid Heavenly and Squaw valley at the weekends. We went to Squaw valley near the end of the day on Saturday, and it was jammed. We did the night skiing, and it was much quitter then.

I liked Mount Rose. Big enough place and only 40 minutes drive from Reno.

If you stay in Tahoe itself (for Heavenly), stay on the Nevada side instead of the California side - that's where the casinos are.

Budget for gambling (free booze when you are).

It was a great trip, just wish I'd been a better skier then.
