Law regarding infringement of Company Name

Trying to pose this so as not to ask for legal advice.....

What law covers the use of company names? How close do two company names have to be for there to be a problem? The same questions for web URL's and company logos?

As an example say two companies in the same business had similar (but not identical) names, logos and web URL's however one was new and the other had been around a while. Would there be any grounds for the older business to seek legal advice?

You would be considering the law on passing off as a priority.

Would that ruling be in respect to trademarked names or would a non trademarked name be classed as protected IP?

Technically it is. There are some 'real' experts here and other who think they are. The issue you have (per deleted thread) require advice and not conjecture. If you want to inform yourself, well and good but don't rely on it.
