I'm currently in third year (TSM pattern A) and will most likely get a third this year  I was averaging a 1. over the past two years, but this year went terribly wrong for reasons etc. Will I be allowed to pass into fourth year with such a terrible result? Any pearls of wisdom

You should probably get in contact with your tutor without delay, if you have not already done so.

Also consider making your departments aware, especially if there are particular reasons why the year went 'terribly wrong'.

Depending on circumstances, some students seek, and gain, permission, through their tutor, to withdraw from a particular examination sesssion. This may happen for example if there are medical or serious personal issues. Withdrawal from an examination session, with permission, may leave students in a better position than if they sat the papers with no realistic hope of getting a good result.

You should consult the college Calendar for any regulations for passing into 4th year.

Note that there are supplemental exams in JS TSM Pattern A. (There are no supplementals in JS Pattern B.) You would would not be permitted to sit a supplemental if you had passed the year at the annual examination.

In summary, discuss your options with your tutor without delay, if you haven't already done so.

And if there are special circumstances, it is far better that they become known to the departments, the TSM Office etc. before the exams rather than afterwards.

You will get into 4th year if you have passed 3rd year (a third is a pass, so don't worry), but like the above poster said, you should talk to your tutor (they can be very helpful), and department year head about why you think things went wrong. You might be able to redeem yourself, especially considering you did so well in the first 2 years.

You should expect a dip in grades between the Junior and Senior years, so don't panic too much about it, but going from a first to a third is a tad more than usual, so definitely do see if you can get some kind of leeway.

I'm not sure if it's in all TSM courses, but my 3rd year from TSM counts as 50% of my degree, so you should do everything you can to get a bump. This particularly annoying for me as I'm doing invariably better this year than last.
