Help needed buying laptop...please?

    Hi

    I'm in the market for a new laptop at the mo and from looking online I've narrowed it down to two. I'm open to other suggestions, just wondering what people think of these.

    Main uses will be for college, I'll be writing a PhD thesis at some stage (soon hopefully), so MS Word will be no. 1. Also Powerpoint and Excel.
    Other uses: general browsing, online poker, youtube, streaming movies and football matches as well as a bit of downloading.

    I've heard Toshiba are fairly reliable. are samsung any good/better?

    Any info or other suggestions greatly appreciated.
