Does anyone know please if it is it possible to copy files from one usb drive attached to a Western Digital TV Live HD Media Player(WDTV) to another usb drive attached to it? If so, are there any good guides to do this online please?

Not with the stock firmware, no. If you install custom firmware like WDLXTV then I think you can do this (along with a load of other enhancements.)

Cheers alun, thanks for the reply, very useful:D

I am considering buying one of the devices and will have a large usb drive connected permanently to it, I will then be updating and adding to that drive using another usb drive.

Can anyone confirm this can be done even with the custom firmware?

There's a WDLXTV Wiki here http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page and a WDTV forum with a sub forum dedicated to WDLXTV here http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?board=14.0 I'm sure you'll find something somewhere there, or join the forum and ask a question.

What I do know is that it supports Telnet/SSH access, so you should be able to copy files across via that route if nothing else.

Home -> Settings -> File Management -> Here just select your source (the drive you want to copy from) and destination (the drive you want to copy to).

While custom firmware from b-rad is great for moviesheets etc, for what you want to do the stock firmware (that's already on the box) will do the job.

Ah, I've just noticed he's got the Live version. I was going by my WD HD TV that definitely doesn't have this feature, sorry :) Not that I knew the Live had it either to be honest!

I've just tried it on wd hd tv gen2 and it does have copy / move / delete feature.

Could it be that gen1 does not have it? Is your firmware up to date?

Yes, I have a Gen 1 model, and yes the F/W is up to date (1.03.01) .. there hasn't been an update since November 2009.
