If you have total darkness and not the wish to use a laptop with high quality they are great.

Try investing the €300 in a decent Epson or benQ , far brighter and far more adaptable.

What I want is something that will give a decent screen size of 30 inches plus in a mobile home when we are on hols in france this year
And maybe give the kids a 60 inch screen in a house room - something that is fairly flexible.

We don't want yet another tv hogging up space - and were thinking that this might be a good workaround - something that we could bring out if we want to watch tv/movies in any room without a permanent setup

I've been looking at the optoma pk301 - which looks like it can function in a fairly bright room - what do you think ? - are there any reliable low cost projectors that might do the same job ? - i.e. fairly portable with a decent enough picture - cant really justify spending too much on it - as we already have two fairly decent hd tvs and don't have the space for a permanent projector setup :-)

Again the Lumens are a big issue again
The PK301 only has 50 Lumens.
While this once again a nice size and reasonable manufacturer for under €300 I picked this one from a well known sight look at the lumens.
    2,5000
The problem with all "Pocket" projectors is they really need to be used in a very dark room all the time. This negates its use on a Sunny day if its to hot outside to be outdoors. But I do see where your coming from with the keep them quiet ( ha ha ) I am just pointing out the noticeable difference.

    Hi Sol,
Thanks for the input - it was very helpful.

In terms of what I decided on (just in case anyone else is looking at these).

I think you are/were right - 50 lumens is just too low.

After a fair bit of investigation I decided on the LG HS200G - which I got at a very decent price in pixmania (about 360 euros) - and seems to meet my expectations !

The reason that I didn't go with the full projector - was because of the following reasons.

    a) The bulbs.

    b) The lower price ones really aren't geared towards having lots of connectivity options etc. (for example the acer - in terms of sound out).

With a dark room - this projector gives a good picture - that is fairly watchable and also portable.

there are a couple of shortcomings in terms of positioning etc. - however on the whole it appears to do the job nicely - I'm getting an decent 80 inch image on a wall - and it also has a built in media player and fm transmitter - which means in terms of being portable its pretty good.

I might venture down the lines of something down the lines of a full projector down the line - however this seems to do the job for the moment.

    Thanks for the advice.
