Rover 75 mechanic needed for nixer

Basically in the cold period something snapped in the drivers side back outer door handle which meant I could not open the door from either the outside or the inside

I had a look yesterday and took the door card off. Turns out the opening mechanism itself is fine, the door was still on the child lock so that was why I couldn't open it from the inside. The electrics all work fine too as does the electric window

This is the culprit:



It connects the outer door handle (itself fine too) with the door opening mechanism. The beige looking plastic bit in the form of a triangle on the top right, has a broken off bit

So I need someone to get me the required part, and fit it between the door handle and the opening mechanism. You'll have to come to me as the car is currently not taxed / insured. I'm based in Lucan and I'm flexible what time would suit you

Help much appreciated! Will of course pay the going rate for this job.

That's the latch assembly. I have that and it's working fine

It's number 14 here

The yoke in my picture is number 10 plus number 11 (both good) plus the broken bit that I'm not sure what number it is or what it is part off

Number 12 is still attached to my number 14, so I don't need that either

My number 10 plus 11 plus my broken bit probably need to be attached to number 4 (blackplate assembly handle), but I don't know how to and what part I need to get

Hope it makes sense to someone with some mechanical knowledge / experience (unlike myself obviously )

I'd say the broken piece is off the tab on the (5) outside handle itself .

From the pic, it looks like the tab from the outside handle feeds through the (4) handle frame, the tab connects to item 11, item 11 pulls item 10/12 and opens the door.

very common thing to go in 4 door 75's where the back doors are rarely used

pain in the hole when its an NCT failure

the one in you pic is missing about an inch to the end of it

That would make perfect sense, except item 11 pushes down item 10/12 and opens the door (when you pull the look outwards)

That triangle plastic bit that is broken kinda rotates around 11 and there is a spring on it as well (don't know if you can see that from the pic)

I have part number 12!

You can't see it in the pic because it is still attached to 14. Item 10 fits into it on the opposite end from where my broken bit is

And you're right, the only reason I want this sorted is so it can be NCT tested

I can't see it fail on any other issue that I know of

I have replaced both of them in the rear doors in my 75.

Pain to remove but the only problem is the triangle piece.

When you pull the handle the plastic piece is what opens the mechanism inside, when it becomes brittle and breaks the end piece off it cannot catch the mech anymore.

That's exactly what seems to have happened. So I need to know exactly what part to order and a friendly mechanic to fit it for me

I got mine in the breakers yard on the m50 m7 roundabout, 10 for both

Yes it was frozen over and yes I pulled it harder then I should have, but a metal latch would not have broken...

Problem is, car is not taxed and not insured (and just out of NCT too). So I need someone to come over to me to do it

My wife used to swear at the back doors, they would open for me (short sharp pull) but refused to open for her. Eventually they stop altogether. Sometimes at NCT you could sorta leave door open and they would close it but not in the last 2 years. They open and close all of them. Window regs are a pain in the hole too.

What I think you need is 3 or 4 of Motors finest, a fully stocked fridge and a BBQ ready to go. I'm sure if great minds came together you'd get it sorted.

My thoughts exactly, Mick. You'd think someone would be interested to do the job. The weather is good all this week and it is bright until well after 8 every day.

I would hazard a guess that you're not getting any takers are there are no mechanics on this forum, and few ordinary people who are handy with cars.

I was offered a beer but as I was driving I had to decline

I did this job on my car, figuring out how the mechanism worked took me about 3 hours, actually fixing it after that only took an hour
