Haven’t seen it mentioned on here yet, apologies if I’ve missed it, but Oliver Humperdink died on Sunday after complications from pneumonia at the age of 62. He managed many wrestlers like Bruiser Brody, Greg Valentine and the One man Gang in the 70’s/80’s, but I’ll always remember him for his part in Bam Bam Biggelow’s 1987 WWF debut.
As an 11 year old, I watch attentively every week, while WWF ran the angle of assigning this new wrestler a manager. No one, short of US based Indy fans, knew anything about him so we all wondered why the top five heel managers in the WWF (Heenan, Hart, Fuji, Slick and Johnny V) were all trying to sign him up. Every week, a short clip would show a bit more of Bam Bam, from his flaming costume to his bald tattooed head, and every week a heel manager was told they were out of the running until finally it was down to Slick, only for Bam Bam to kick him to the curb and go face, and announced Humperdink as his manager) I was totally hooked by this angle, I’d never seen such a fuss made by a debuting wrestler and to be honest, out of all the attempts over the years to build up a new guy before his debut, I still think this one worked the best.
“The Hump” as Bam Bam called him, also managed Paul Orndorf for his face turn / last WWF run around the same time, and appeared at Wrestlemania 4 with Biggelow, but all three guys were gone by the end of ’88.
Just thought I mention him, like a lot of small time players in WWF/E over the years, he’s still part of some great memories and it’s sad to think both him and Bam Bam have now passed away.

    RIP

He was a very unusual character, both on and off screen, I remember reading he was intensely displeased with playing a face in the WWF and couldn't stand the politics of WCW or his gimmick there.

I remember him best as Big Daddy Dink in WCW (he managed a few wrestlers and had a kind of biker gimmick, he was involved with DDP as a co manger around the same time).

But even in life he had a very straight edged attitude, I read when he was diagnosed last year he refused treatment, sold everything he owned, and just checked into a hospice.

He wasn't a wrestler but did have a pretty memorable altercation with Lex Luger that is partially shown on YouTube

    RIP
