Just wondering what is the best depth to bury external water pipe? Any suggestions with regard to possible methods to prevent frozen pipes, keeping in mind that if insulated pipes freeze they will take longer to thaw out!

Minimum 300mm should protect them from frost.

Min 750 mm to avoid risk of freezing. If you can put it a little deeper

Are you joking?!! Dept of Environment manual for Site development works recommends 900mm. Any less than 750 and you're certainly into freezing/burst pipe territory - without a doubt.
