What is that all about?if its unlocked it should work with all sim's like the one from apple store or im missed something?Did anybody try to ring apple and ask?or found any other work around to work with all sim cards?By the way im on 4.2.1 fw. Thanx!;)

Then i insert meteor card it just asks to connect to itunes. Then i do so itunes shows me "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not apear to be supported". Tried with 2 meteor sim cards one data one regular prepay, both same result. And its working with vadafone, three, and o2, without any problems, then i first inserted o2 and three, it did ask to connect to itunes as well, but it activated without any problems. Will try to get new meteor card tomorrow. Did you get your iphone 4 unlocked form vodafone and it works without any hassle?

Edit: just came back from meteor, bought micro sim, same crap "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not apear to be supported"...any suggestions?thanx

Edit: Just talked with apple ~30mins, they were telling me that iphone is locked to O2 :DDD.... will try to restore it and try to activate then...

sounds like your phone is locked to approved networks.
the unlock from O2 will sort this out and it will work with Meteor afterwards.

    seen it happen twice before.

The guy who sold me iphone said that it was from vodafone, maybe he lied, who knows, but then i talked with guys from apple, after telling serial number of my iphone he told me that its locked to o2 ireland...

So my latest update...applied for unlock on o2 online request form, got a message back that they dont have any records of my IMEI. Rang apple care one more time, just to make sure that last time i told correct serial nr, got same answer, phone from o2 and has a mark next to it that its unlocked to supported networks, then i asked wtf is that suppose to mean(i always thought that if its unlocked its unlocked to all networks)? but operator wasnt sure because he saw it first time, and told me that only carrier can handle that, and then i told my story about o2 he said to call vodafone as well...so my story continues....

I wonder if it would make any difference if it was from O2 UK?

Vodafone is not giving away any info because im not account holder, even a simple answer, was it originally from vodafone or not. Contacted o2 it seams guy from apple was right, its from o2, my request passed through waiting for a Monday for more details...Hope everything will be fine with o2, if no i will sell phone as semi-locked, because i need it with other non Irish carriers...

Same story with my iPhone 4. If you restore the phone and activate with an O2 sim; Apple tells you its locked to O2. Restore it again and activate it with a Vodafone sim; Apple tells you it's locked to vodafone. Etc.

I went around to the "Approved" network stores in Wexford (3, Vodafone, O2) and gave them my IMEI and asked if they had any record of it on their network. None did.

Turns out that the person I bought my iPhone from had a factory unlocked iPhone, something went wrong with it so he sent it back and got a replacement iPhone, then sold that to me.

The only way to get it fully unlocked is if you can get the order number of the iPhone so Apple can check that it is indeed meant to be unlocked to all networks. I asked the seller for this order number and then never heard from him again :/

Maybe you will be more lucky though!

Did u try to ring apple care?and ask to which network its locked?Im waiting till Monday, i should get an answer from o2. in worst case scenario some day will be an unlock from iphone dev team, or u can use that gevey turbo sim, its still kind of expensive (about 70$) but clones are on the way so after week or two price will drop. Cheers

Edit:so after restore u ring apple and they are telling that its locked to o2, or vodafone (depends of the first card u insert to activate iphone) ?

Yes, AppleCare were the ones who told me it was locked to Vodafone and O2 as per the first paragraph of my post...

It's not a problem for me as I am with vodafone now anyway, and I am still on baseband 1.59.00 too :P

As for the Gevey SIM: The method that uses to get you unlocked (by dialing an emergency number then hanging up), for me, is far too immoral to justify using it. But that's just me :)

All kudos to O2 who told you it wasn't their phone in the first place?

Low expectation of Customer service there......

I'm mystified as to how it worked on 3 operators even though it was locked? Jailbreaking doesn't rule out using Meteor, does it?

It's a strange one alright, although not unheard of. I have seen a couple of similar stories on here a few months back.

Maybe it was, who knows, but any way nobody from vf not even told me simple yes on no then i asked them is iphone from vf, because im not the account holder. Im not blaming any body because its their way to deal with problems and all companies have their own policy.

Iphone was locked to "supported Irish carriers only" as i said i tried meteor tried some non irish sims, none worked. I have no idea what kind of lock was on, but im not alone here who had same problem...

Have an iPhone 4 that was unlocked by O2. Have tried O2, Vodafone, 3 and Meteor sims in it. All work except Meteor. Old thread but same problem. Any one know if this will work outside Ireland?

I'm not with O2 so presume they wouldn't help me

Same like it was with my iphone, it will work only with approved Irish networks(o2, voda, 3). Find a friend who has o2, go to o2 forum, tell moderators about your situation and it will be sorted. If u dont have any friends with o2,buy a prepay card, register it and talk with moderators in the forum. if u need any more help let me know:} good luck
