    Hi,
Go to Halpenny and get a decent second hand set or have a look on adverts some thing like muzino mx17's would be a great starter set. Pick up a hybrid anything by taylormade, ping would be good and any driver by the same. If u want to buy new then anything by MD golf great quality and a good price.

Right so im getting back into golf after being out of the sport for about 5 years, have only a few clubs out in the shed so first on the list is a new set of clubs. Seen amazon have a sale on at the moment so was looking at a few sets on there such as:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bullet-Mens-Golf-Club-Stand/dp/B003DOEBPU/ref=sr_1_3?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1300749731&sr=1-3
    and
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Confidence-Power-Complete-Clubs-Package/dp/B000OXOMDY/ref=sr_1_5?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1300749731&sr=1-5
Anyone have any experience with these clubs or know anybody with same ?

I used to get lessons in Elm Green and liked that course so anybody know when would the best time for a semi-beginner to get out and play ? Thinking midweek around 1-ish as people would be in work and id be on a half day from school ;)

    Thanks for the help,
    Damo
Just in regards to those sets of clubs Damo,i know they are cheap, but ive been playing golf for 22 years and ive never heard of either of those makes and id bet no one else has either:confused:
i wouldnt think they would be great to be honest, they might be fine for a beginner but i reckon they wouldnt last very long, you'd end up having to replace them fairly soon....
i think you'd be better off buying a second hand set of recognised branded cavity-back irons(try done deal) or argos do cheap sets which would be a much better option than the ones your looking at on amazon......
    best of luck anyway:)

Have to agree with mike12, Try Halpenny golf or some pro shop. I don't believe that the quality of clubs in either of the adverts would be good. It would be a better investment to purchase a known brand even if a little bit more expensive.

Well i have a putter I like and a driver I like so i may only need a set of irons, a 3 wood and a bag and ill be good to go.
Will head out to them golf shops and have a look, and also on adverts.

About my second question (what the best time to head out would be) anyone have any advice on that ? Was thinking silloge aswell, not the best course but right beside me :)

Damo bear in mind when looking for a second hand set that 5-pw will be fine, even 6-pw. Those hard to hit longer Irons 3 & 4 & sometimes 5 irons will be better replaced with hybrids in the 24' to 20' degree range which are easier to hit than long irons.
When considering your choices have a look on golf bidder:
    http://www.golfbidder.co.uk/clubtype/3/iron_sets.html
Its an excellent site and carries all the brands. Building your set will take time and is a process of evolution, the more you get into the game and the more proficient you become your set will build and so will your expertise in choosing suitable equipment to match your ability.

As for what time of the day I would say 10am- 11am would generally be a quiet time mid week from my experience of working in a golf. Although with the good weather hopefully coming our way during the summer courses are going to be busier than usual.
Try Teetimes.ie for some deals on course local to you.

Cheers, I was aiming for a 5-PW and tbh any cheap set would do as ill only be playing every once in a while.
Cheers for the advice lads, still debating on wether or not to get the set off amazon as it has everything I need including bag and from the reviews it says there grand for beginners, but ive emailed halpenny golf and will look on golfbidder aswell.

+1 on the 2nd hand set. for €120 - €170 you will get a forgiving club by ping or cobra and they will save you endless heartache.

+1 - forget about the shiny new starter sets. Much better to be got from secondhand market. Choose something you like the look and feel of, but take a look at several sets before you choose.

Also try Adverts.ie for a more local set. I'm sure most of the members on this forum also have at least 1 second hand set in the garage. Second hand clubs are worth very little so there are lots and lots of sets out there - the majority of which would be perfect for you.

By the way - most people on here also have multiple golf bags, so there should be loads of these available secondhand also.
