New course... thank christ for that!

Any idea what the course is like. What does a drag constitute?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

I am doing this. I will let the others win tho. I am not interested in 'non cash prizes'... ;)

i think the dundalk lads used part of this course for their league races last year. if its the one i think it is, then the finish should suit a big fella like yourself shaungil.from what i can remember of the 1 or 2 races i did up there , i personally found the drags quite long, especially when u have big lads driving up the front. may give this a go meself, hopefully lucan sat and dundalk sun.

Sounds fine until you're on the 4th lap with the 1's and 2's hammering up it and you're chewing the tape off the bars trying ot hang on.

Strange, that's never happened to me. I'm normally back in the car park sipping on a latte at that point, soaking up some sun.

Cycling Ireland rules forbid cash prizes for A4s.
    Though if it's the women's race you're commenting about, I haven't a clue...

I have won a couple of cash prizes for a4 this year so obviously other clubs break the rules.

Any news on injuries from the crash in the A4 race? It happened with a few kms to go, and it seemed pretty serious. A number of Cuchulainn lads involved.

in the general message board, there is a Trader's Cup crash update.

Was a nasty accident, hope they're all recovering well.

That was tough going. Noticeable pace increase when we were caught at the start of the fourth lap but was able to hang in and try to go with a few attacks. 2 hrs 16 mins ave 38kph.

No idea what was happening at the end. Running the finish back up the same road was I thought asking fore trouble and was tight on lap 4, as I think the ladies finished.

I presumed race was over so sat up in group as there were 2 or 3 bodies lying on the road and was chatting away. I know a lot of riders had stopped fully. Practiced alead out for Staro in last 500 m, he never bothered coming round me tho!

    T11.7:

However the value of the prizes should be allocated in a sporting manner. Details of such prizes shall be advised to the Commissaire who shall ensure that this information is made available to all competitors prior to the start of the race."

That previous post was meant to follow this one!!! Arse about face typical me!

Anywya the race was excellent imho. Great marshalling, lots of motorbikes, good signage to the sign on and good facilities. well done CCC.

Came upon the race yesterday, haven't been at a road race since the mid 90's. I was impressed with the amount of marshalls present and the standard of bike riding. From the Ballymac roundabout to the turn back for Ravensdale very few riders crossed the white line, a big change from the racing I witnessed years ago.

Relieved to hear that update on the crash. It looked quite serious.

Re-reading my post It seems somewhat critical. Really well organised race with a rake of marshalls and signs , plenty of motorbikes cars etc. Just the finsih I didn't like thought they should have kept it on the same lap. Just my humble opinion.

My bro was caught in the crash which happened just in front of him, he was on the ball and slammed on and as he stopped in time he thought to himself "that was closed".

Of course someone went into the back of him and down he went. Broken saddle and road rash.

Said it looked scary for a while but that the guys seemed to be in shock more than anything broken. Hopefully all well.

Couldn't agree more shanguil. Great race spoiled by a bad finish. Whoever decided to take the group back around the roundabout made a mistake, having to pass the carnage twice was comical - and not exactly conducive to an all out sprint 2km up the road. The finish would have been much better positioned on the main Carlingford road. When our race (A1/2/3) came upon the crash it nearly came to a stop and what was a well strung out line came back into a large bunch. Not very fair for those who were driving the pace at the front who were then jumped by a load of riders who were sitting on for the lap and had fresh legs.

Hope everyone involved in the spill makes a quick recovery.

Agree with the last posts, great circuit, but the finish was terrible, I was off the front on my own at the finish of the a4 race when the crash happened, had to go around the roundabout only to come upon the riders who had crashed which was a shock. Its not too safe as when going for the win as lads do sometimes cross the white line and if the other races are coming on the other side of the road doing the same which they were it could have led to trouble too.

However great race, excellently marshalled and good facilities in HQ. Hope the bones and bikes are mended soon!
