What is the best 4/5 door small family hatchback for handling, CO2 tax rates, reliability, and fuel economy and standard equipment for about 23K OTR new!

The first three that comes to mind are:

    1, VW Golf 1.2 TSI
    2, Honda Civic 1.4 Vtec
    3, Toyota Corolla 1.33 VVTi

Also the New Ford Focus is a contender!

Even though I prefer Jap or Gerry built cars as a rule!

    Any other options or opinions!

Wait for the Focus, the three you've chosen are boring by comparison.

If you'll take this on too, you could get 2 Renault Clio entry level petrol models for about 26k. So find 3k and get two cars :)
Or you could look at the Megane hatch, that would be well within budget

The Civic. The original 1.4 was economical and comfortable but dead as a door nail. The 1.4 VTEC is much better though.

Well, for 23k I dont expect to get MX5 or BMW coup fun!

Just an affordable A to B transport option with a bit more space then a supermini!

The Focus has been built in Germany for years.
